    and then I hotwire my encryption key into the boot process via
    dd if=/dev/urandom of=/boot/key
    luksAddKey /dev/sdaX /boot/key
    then point crypttab to the /boot drive UUID
    then update initramfs

    it's literally the equivalent of hiding the key to your front door under the door mat but if you get creative you can cat the output of some inconspicuous jpg or something and use that as the encryption key as long as you can store it on /boot
