I own dozens of old android devices that I sometimes tinker with by writing custom ROM software, when I feel like it.
What is the risk of an old battery catching fire by itself? Can I manage the risk? Again, I do this just for fun, I'll give all of this up if that means one day I don't wake up in hellfire.

why do white girls turn into men and men turn into white girls
It's a white thing, you can't understand.
That's an american.
Hitler lost the war.
Jews aren't white
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world
Is that really the same girl?
It's just bad photo, her face is deformed because she is too close to the edge. Bottom picture looks more modern than top one.
Top: wouldn't.
Bottom: would.
Why is IQfy suddenly full of paedophiles?
Just a thread ago I saw other dude making completely unappropriated remarks about little kids as well

its literally bait you morons
only paedophiles say "paedo"
I don't. I just nail children.
>t.paedo
>I was just pretending for attention
No. You're moronic.
huh?
I said you're moronic.
Which is the case no matter the context.
If you wrote the original post, sincerely or just for attention, you're moronic.
If you made an assumption on someone else's behalf, you're extra moronic and naive.
It's no surprise you're confused.
Sorry anon but can you explain it a little bit better?
I don't understand what you're trying to say
No, that's the limit of my clarification with you unless you specify something in particular.
uhhh, then what about, uhhhh.....
Dinosaurs
What about them? I don't see the relevance they have to any of this.
can you be more specific?
Specific in regard to what?
let's say dinosaurs, thats a good topic to be specific about
I have no desire to talk about dinosaurs in general, especially since they have no relevance to the topic at hand.
well then what do you want to talk about?
I don't want to talk with you at all.
uhh, care to elaborate on that?
Sure. I don't like the way you choose to communicate, so it's not worthwhile to engage with you except for the purpose of keeping the thread bumped.
I didn't quite catch what you just said, can you say it a bit louder?
That's not how text works. But what I'm saying is that I'm using you as bump bait to keep the thread alive.
what? what does that even have to do with dinosaurs?
It has nothing to do with dinosaurs.
sorry I don't really get it can you explain that again?
No. If you want you can re-read the posts in the thread and see if it makes sense on a second pass.
If there's something specific you don't understand, you can quote it and ask me to clarify it.
then can you clarify on the dinosaur question?
I don't know which dinosaur question you're referring to.
what dinosaur?
I'm not sure what you meant by that, so I can't answer it. In regards to what are you asking about "dinosaur"?
you know, dinosaurs, dinosaurs are cool aren't they
I know about them, I don't know what you're asking. Regardless, I don't want to talk about them. If you have questions about something relevant, you can ask me about that.
well if not dinos, what is relevant then?
The meta of this thread. I.e. this reply chain.
huh?
and where did the dinosaur topic came from then?
>where did the dinosaur topic came from then
This post
(which is not mine) brought it up.
can you explain about that then?
No, can't.
I can only make assumptions on it. If you're the author of that post, only you can explain your rationale for bringing it up.
well you can't deny they're cool then
It's a topic I don't wish to argue, one way or the other.
what topic?
Your tangent topic.
what the one you mentioned about a string and whatnot?
I don't recall mentioning such a thing, you'll have to find and quote what you're referring to.
well what do you have to say about the string post then
I don't have anything to say about it because I have no recollection of what you're referring to. Are you talking about the reply-chain, as in a string of posts or something else?
yeah yeah that, is that a dinosaur?
I guess it depends on your interpretation. I wouldn't call it that.
i don't get it, explain it to me please
Consider the term "sealioning", it refers to both a kind of animal and a form of posting on the internet. Uncommon, and maybe unconventional but arguably valid.
In this case, you could be referring to the string of posts in the same manner, and I am not. I wouldn't be able to tell what your vocabulary is since I do not know you.
uhhh, and what does that have to do with dinosaurs again?
Nothing. You're the one bringing that into the reply chain. You'd have to tell me, I can't tell you.
>You're the one
Haha got you gay how do you know it's me who posted it
Now, as this
post describes, you're "extra moronic and naive"
This post
is a direct reply in the chain, to this post
which brings the topic into the discussion. Either in sequence or independently.
I.e. "You" is referring to the author of said post, whether it is the same as previous ones or not.
I'm not sure what exactly you mean or what you're referring to now. Got what?
No mods.

It's a biological grill, just a very ugly one
if lithium batteries then it's quite high
If lithium batteries then it's extremely low
Low but not zero. You can mitigate the risks by storing them in metal containers (don't have to be sealed) away from easily burnable items.
Any old metal box will do?
>(don't have to be sealed)
Why not?
>The battery charging logic and protection circuit is always low level hardware unaffected by firmware.
I sort of knew that. I wasn't so much worried about my OS tinkering causing a fire, more so a battery I didn't notice is degraded igniting randomly.
My understanding is that there will be some swelling first.
>What is the risk of an old battery catching fire by itself?
Moderate in the medium term, pretty high in the long term when you're talking about a range of old mobile devices with thin Li-Ion cells constrained by the case of the battery. One of those swells up enough, gets punctured by the casing, and cooks off... almost inevitable eventually.
>Can I manage the risk? Again, I do this just for fun, I'll give all of this up if that means one day I don't wake up in hellfire.
Yes. Some of the phones have removable batteries and will run on a cord without the battery inserted - Get rid of the batteries for those and use them without. For the rest, you have a range of options. You could get rid of the oldest ones to mitigate the highest risks. You could keep them in a place with a smoke alarm overhead so if they do cook off, you are alerted quickly to the situation and can either escape or fight the fire. Speaking of which, regular extinguishers aren't effective, but some specialized ones are available. If you have a suitable place, you could also store them outside your living area e.g. in a shed or garage so that if they do cook off, the damage is limited. Gotta be a bit careful with that last option though, since temperature and humidity swings can speed up the battery degredation and increase the odds of a fire.
>My understanding is that there will be some swelling first.
There will but this is where the problem lies - When a battery swells inside a phone it doesn't have anywhere to go and the casing presses against it. If this leads to the battery wrap being pierced, you get an oxygen reaction with the lithium in the cell and now you have a fire. Storing the batteries outside the phones can be a good way to both observe for any swelling and prevent the phone shell from piercing the batteries, but this only works if the battery is removable.
I don't have time to talk to the looser of this internet debate
I simply won it, stay mad about it
One of the things to worry about is puncturing them and causing a fire.
I used to work for a cellphone maker. People in such a company have at least 5-10 older device flying around in their desks. Back when those had replaceable batteries, at least a dozen of those too. And that was >1000 workers in the building.
There never was a single fire. We never even worried about that. And that's with prototype devices in the mix too. The battery charging logic and protection circuit is always low level hardware unaffected by firmware.
She hit the wall hard
>anon replies to bot posts then makes himself mad
top kek
>damn, CWC is almost passing these days.
Phone batteries are relatively safe. Keep them in metal or pottery boxes if you're worried. They'll die and leak before they catch fire.
I've had a faulty vacuum cleaner battery catch fire at my parents' last year. I just had used the vacuum and the battery started melting and spouting flames.
lol
can you believe we live in a world where (s)he raped his own mother? just absurd, the entire thing
