Public instances break all the time. SearXNG isn't reliable.
Private instances that are shared between a small group of people work the best.
Searx and brave search
Brave has its own crawler so it’s not reliant on bing or Google
they dont exist if you want a general one. you have to accept multiple specialties and use each one for whatever purpose.

hell israelitegle owns youtube and israelite tube is even better than google because thumbnails and scrubbing lets you see what content will be like before you evne click something
I spent the last hour or so scrubbing through videos looking for a teardown of the Anker Prime battery bank because I'm tinkering with the idea of turning my steam deck into a maid computer if I ever upgrade to the OLED. I want to add to the battery life but i'm not really sure how other than to pull out some batteries and stuff them in to the housing.

Bing spits out an initial search page (enter search terms, enter, get a list of links to choose), many of the links don't respond and Panda. Wikipedia links work, maybe some others. There's a problem.

The search "might" be private, but the sites you visit from that search are not. Most sites have google ads and all that shit running in the background and if you have a user to login like youtube then it's worse.

Bing shat the bed, and so did every meta search engine that only relied on that. Brave was unaffected as it relies on Google and their own systems. DDG shat the bed because they only use Bing. SearX was unaffected because it uses all crawlers to get the results.
