I'm with you on this. HA is definitely funnier, and its got more juice. It's chaotic and not terribly focused, but it came out at the right time for that sort of thing. GV feels like when an artist finds a niche and then over-exploits it. I made it about twenty pages in and then cast it aside.

I skimmed through the Twitter account that posts quotes from the books and laughed out loud. It's the same drivel you find on /misc/ but somehow even dumber and more self confident. I wouldn't have expected it to be so ugly and stupid seeing how popular these books are.

I realized Mike Ma was a pseud the moment I read, right in the beginning of HA, the warning for the non-chronological "anedoctal" structure of the book, as if Ma himself thought this was some kind of unique artsy novelty.
