Metric system

Is there anything more cucked and reddit than the metric system? Cheering for it is like being glad that, nowadays, everyone all around the world wears the same jeans and bland shirts. It's like hoping that, one day, everyone will speak British received pronunciation or write using the IPA table.
>you don't get it, man, the world should be as cultureless and homogeneous as possible so it doesn't take any effort for people from different geographical regions to communicate
Frick you, golem. Immensely.
Different regions should create different units of measurement, should have different cartographic conventions, should dress different, should speak vastly different languages and it should take you effort to access different cultures because that is the only way cultural exchange could be rewarding.

Wanting every culture to be the same doesn't make you an internationalist, it just makes you patriotic for industrial interests.

A measuring system is hardly a culture. Like it or not, the world is global now and it makes everyone's lives a lot easier if we standardise the basic systems our lives depend on. It has nothing to do with homogenising culture.

        >A measuring system is hardly a culture
        Yes, and neither is language.

The world would ultimately be improved if both are homogenized. Though homogenizing language is more difficult than getting people to say they're 185 cm instead of 6'1"

Converting to metric system is easier said than done.

Ultimately, the government here has converted everything the government can. The government can't make people use metric in casual settings, and converting something like construction is a very difficult and expensive task that is far more trouble than its worth, even Canada hasn't done that. Converting what people use in casual setting requires a cultural shift.

Only thing the government here can change that they haven't would honestly be road signs, which would be pretty pointless.

My point is that it is more of a cultural shift than a policy shift. The government uses metric more than imperial, and the country here is still listed as having little adoption of the metric system

We have taught in in school alongside imperial for over 50 years.

Its taught as much if not more. We learn it at the same time, and it gets more use in science classes.

Well only teach metric then, it's what they've been doing here for centuries and that's why everyone only uses metric nowadays

That would have a negative impact considering construction is still in imperial and always will be and people will still casually use imperial so not teaching it to kids would not be wise.

There really isn't much of a problem, we live in a world where you can convert units in like 5 seconds. The solutions are basically worse than the problem itself

Some things here are measured in non metric units and other non-metric units here like inches in tv, monitor size, tyre size, wood width/thickness, nautical miles and knots in the sea, etc. In estimations may use fathoms. Coffee cups in cooking. Dozens, 10s, 20s, 500s are some units for various products, carats for gold.
