Wagner was the Ubermensch, Nietzsche's whole life was a cope for not being Wagner.

It's about speciation-- man isn't immune, but Last Man is on the down-going track of acquiring a determinate fixed sub-human nature.

    The ubermensch already exist:

[In Egypt, in Assyria, in India, it was believed that white men were gods or could become gods, and it was thought possible of white warriors fighting and winning against the celestial powers. The same notions are found in the primitive societies of Greece, as I said about the Titans, and I repeat here of their immediate descendants, the Deucalionids. These brave men boldly fight the supernatural beings and the personified forces of nature. Diomedes wounds Venus; Hercules kills the sacred eggs of Lake Stymphalide, he suffocates the giants, children of the earth, and shakes the vault of the infernal palaces; Theseus, traveling the underworld with sword in hand, is a true Scandinavian. In a nutshell, the Aryan-Greeks, like all their parents, have such a high opinion of the rights of vigour, that nothing seems to them too much above their legitimate pretensions and permissible audacity.]

He wanted to give people an ideal that was as powerful as religion but stronger and healthier, something small is not enough to give people meaning.
Why did the Greeks talk about Dionysus if they weren't Dionysus themselves? Those beliefs still produced a culture that Nietzsche admired.

I thought he was a prophet for Dionysus?

Yes, possessed even by the spirit of Dionysus, who is the actual Christ. The Saturnian Christ, the Roman/israeli interpretation of the historical avatar of Dionysus, is the Anti-Christ.
