I've refuse to play any game that has this, even if all my friends are playing it. I don't care. When I find out the game has aggressive anti-cheat after buying then I submit a refund.

The gap increases the higher up you go. From 1% to 0.1% is harder than from 40% to 1%. Every order of magnitude is more difficult than the last. This is a very wide spread phenomenon, just like going from 10nm to 1nm node is a lot more difficult than going from 100nm to 10nm.

I don't think you understand the point of the modern economy. GDP increases because people do less work (for more productivity), you need more production to sustain the population. If you live in a low GDP country you will spend all your time working and still have half your children die. While in a high GDP country you can spend all your time playing games and live a comfortable life. It's easier to create desires over needs.

You are correct. Not sure why the ESLS are calling you a wage slave where nowhere you implied to work more, just to get more meaningful hobbies

because all brainlets think the same. the life skills and lessons i learned in videogames were way cheaper than learning them through real life. vidya taught me not to blindly trust authority figures, spokespeople, thirdies, all life lessons that could have literally killed me outside the simulucrum of a time wasting vidya. When you get banned for exercising freedom of speech from a vidyagame, it's way less impactful on your life than getting banned for trying to do the same thing in the corporate world. But the lesson remains: everything youve been taught about freedom and the law is a lie, and the system is rigged to ruin you. At least its a soft crash if its your '60 dollars stolen' instead of 'career stolen'.

The ruling class hates videogames for this reason. you can learn how to be racist because thirdies are ruining your community long before you will realize it when they start taking your jobs. But since its done in some shitty game nobody will notice or mark you down for now having bad think. You can realize how badly poorpeople should not be trusted or sympathized with when you see how they act in an environment with no police to keep them in check. Videogames are not a waste of time, they are a way to speedrun life's potential problems and see the consequences of letting them play out. It gives you future vision of how society is going and how people really think/behave once they are let loose and allowed to do so. It is an important coming of age tool for young men to experience so they can navigate life's pitfalls.

Of course they want to spy on you in vidya, because people are learning things they shouldnt while playing some quick 3v3 10 minute match in a ramdom f2p game.

          Are you 12 years old?

When I was a kid, for sure there was a time when I loved to play games. But even as a kid when I spent too much time on games, it definitely didn't make me happy. It made me feel like everything was futile and I felt more frustrated if anything. That's not even taking into account moments of gamer rage which made me feel worse than almost anything else.

Gaming a lot doesn't make anyone happy. Not even a kid. An adult who spends a lot of time playing games is draining their soul. To play for half an hour every once in a while to get your mind off other things might make sense for an adult, but it's more about clearing your mind than happy happy gaming.

depends. I've pretty much stopped playing all grinding games and competitive games where all you do is waste your life away for the next rank or achievement. I realized it's not actually fun for me so they're a waste of time, and they demand much more time than other kinds of games. i still enjoy story games though, it's like reading a fiction book but funner, and entertainment (in moderation) is a valid use of one's time. I also still do play competitive games like fortnite sometimes, when my friends want to all get on a call and play. spending time talking to friends/family will always be valid regardless of the actual activity. It's one of the few things that are actually worth it in life.

CS2/CSGO is riddled with cheaters. Kernel level anti-cheat is the only way to prevent the casual cheating you see in CS. So many players will have cheats installed and ready to toggle when they think someone else is cheating but otherwise not use them. It's lame as hell and ruins the game.

If your gameplay session is disrupted by a cheater the psychologists they hired have found that you're less likely to buy a gamepass or lootboxes. This is a very serious matter I'm afraid.

Maybe if people stopped cheating we wouldn't need such drastic measures.

They need to stop letting south americans, russians, and chinese pollute western servers. That'd help tremendously but they won't.

indeed fortunately all these "mitigations" are still badness enumeration in the end
if i have physical access i will find a way to debug it
the real solution is netcode that is mathematically proven to be impossible to cheat on (but discord troony devs are too moronic to figure that out)

Some time ago I was all in for kernel level anti-cheats (I really hate cheats) I've seen games completely destroyed by having too may cheaters in pvp.

I just saw a video of how some cheats just run on external hardware now (using dma to capture memory or just using the video output) so there's no way anymore for anti-cheats to detect them anymore.

Afaik not even game consoles are cheat free now.

Right, people will just install memory reading modules on their computers and then use that info to control a cheat from a third party computer, there's absolutely no way to detect that, specially with how subtle it is

Don’t act like kids haven’t always been doing this shit, it’s not something new. It’s just that more kids are playing multiplayer games on PC than previously now that even shitty laptops can run most games on low settings.

As for why, it’s probably a mix of reasons. Wanting to have high stats without the time investment, using them to make the game less frustrating because they can’t be bothered spending the time to learn, finding enjoyment in the act of “beating” the games anti-cheat, using it to grind for whatever flavour of loot box a specific game features, farming for shit to sell in RMT, trolling, a vendetta against the game itself. Any number of reasons.

most cheaters are really bad at the game and see it as "leveling the playing field"
most cheaters are also "closet cheaters" who only briefly turn their cheats on to make a kill or get and overview, not obvious at all but you will definitely wonder how the guy was prefiring a headshot around that corner and maybe blame it on lag or something

for DMA there are a few mitigating strats:
      whitelist PCI attached hardware
make sure IOMMU support is available for the kernel and the driver to isolate PCIe DMA access from game memory.

for video, you're fricked. it's literally game over. Best you can do is try to enforce, OY VEY HDCP ONLY GOY but chinks don't give a single frick about DMCA and you'll still be able to get splitters that will strip it for you.

        Anonymous

They usually spoof the dma device as something else but yes, it's theoretically possible to detect, and for video is just as you said, and additional you will also want players being able to stream and record video too cause it's free advertising.

I don't think they'll be too concerned about dma devices as it'll be time consuming to properly detect while only a very little amount of players will use something like that, being expensive and hard to set right.

Good to know and I hope they kept being caught but afaik people are still using them just by spoofing its id to match another device.

Also as there's still the visual based method anti-cheats with similar approaches as vanguard will still fail to guarantee a 100% cheats free game, so they'd better start analyzing all the inputs data like they do in trackmania but better.

And the visual method is going to improve fast as it works on consoles too, so they better start improving the inputs based anti-cheats instead of using software tamper detection cause soon it's gonna be the only way to stop cheaters.

real problem is cheating is big business, there's too much of a financial incentive for hack developers and not enough for game developers to combat it

it needs to be legislated so selling these hacks makes you legally complicit in the hacking of the servers and other clients, but good luck getting geriatric boomers in congress to understand this stuff, they couldn't protect us against scalping either

without legislation the only thing you can do is run anticheat software which is easily circumvented

        >selling these hacks makes you legally complicit in the hacking of the servers and other clients
What are you talking about? 99.9% of cheats don't touch servers or other clients. You're only complicit in breaking the rules of a game. You're insane if you think that should be illegal.

Wrong. You do statistical analysis and just monitor the accounts to build a profile. Once you have enough detailed profiles you can cross reference.

Remember that the metrics cheaters generate are completely different from legitimate players. This bullshit about it being too much work is just them being cheap and cutting corners.

Analytical approaches are a lot more efficient at catching real cheaters than anticheats. This isn’t debatable at all.

authoritative servers cost money, easier to just run everything p2p with a thin server doing the most basic stuff
a second server acting as referee for the first server (the only actually effective anticheat method) costs twice as much so no chance of that

the solution to cheaters is P2P verification and snitching where clients silently vote on the validity of players. at most you have 1/3rd of the lobby cheating so it's fine if clients do voting. you can absolutely do something with the derivatives of client mouse inputs to identify possible silent magnetism hax

Community servers dont scale to 100s of thousands of players.

        Anonymous

That’s why you have three tiers of servers
        >ranked: AI and/or statistics driven cheat detection implemented serverside. Player inputs are recorded in case of dispute. The highest ranks can only be played on verified hardware in certain physical locations
        >public: no cheat detection but you can report suspect users, and the jannies will clean it up (GTA Online in particular instead of banning you throws you into a designated server that only has other cheaters, or at least they used to I haven’t kept up with it)
        >community: you pick the users to play with, and literally anything goes

        Anonymous

tf2 servers only run on 1 core and host 1 map. Scale is literally just starting another server on another core.
You could also have 50 players on a single core. So just renting 2 epyc server2 will be more than enough for 100k players, if the game was actually that popular you might be able to make enough money to buy your own servers if you could keep trolling, cheating and griefing down

          Anonymous

          >scale
Why not? It's a poster child of scalable. A highly parallel task with almost zero coherence overhead needed. Ahmdal would be creaming his pants.

More people playing means more people who'd be willing to host their own community servers
And when you actually let people do things you get results like that giga autist on youtube who managed to tweak and change shit enough on TF2 to have a hundred player server with minimal lag

          >playing game with with 100,000+ active players like csgo, cod, valorant, etc.
          >open server browser
          >see 10,000 servers
          >try joining one, 8/10 players
          >"Server is already full"
          >try another, 0/10 players
          >connect successfully
          >no one joins
          >quit back to main menu
          >repeat
The solution to this is matchmaking which gets you the same spot. Or some private "community server" matchmaking which is even worse than developer provided since you have gay mods that will power trip and ban you from everything

Because theres going to be 1000 other players trying to get into the same sorted list of servers as you are at the same time. Which means youre clicking on join/retry over and over to find something because the 8/10 server just got filled up after you hit refresh. The solution is some queuing/matchmaking system

The solution is joining a server with 5 players.

Thats not what happens. I've played Squad which uses community servers. What happens is the main servers have 30+ player queues which take 15 minutes to get into while you have <10/100 servers that are sitting empty. Theres a critical mass number that you reach where everyone starts joining, but before that, youre basically just wasting time waiting.

Don't show every server to every player then. Bam, fixed.

Community servers can have queues too and they'll tell you your position on it, so not really a problem, if you want to wait in pos. 7 you know it's gonna take a while and can try on another one instead.

I can't remember the game name now but an old title had queues and you can even go to another servers or play solo while you waited for a slot to open.

Matchmaking, but give the player with highest account value moderator perms to kick people if they cheat. Require over 50% vote to kick players.

Combat arms had this system where you pay 15 a month for moderator permissions if you created the lobby

        >scale

Community servers scaled to hundreds of millions of players for minecraft.
