Not a philosopher, all french pseuds from 18th century just pushed utopias that ended giving places to the gratest nightmares in human history, from the revolutionary terror of robespierre to the nazi or red terror from the past century.
Never a literary tradition said so little with soo many words, they arent even original, the sick utopic genre reality le bad was already explored by other schizos like Plato, St. Augustine and Thomas More.
Enlightment was a shitty period compared to renaissace-baroque in every aspect except of music.
Boring threatre, dangerous idealism, boring books, boring poetry.

No he wasn't. He was the enlightenment version of the rich kid who wears Ralph Lauren Polos to school everyday and probably likes penis and if you beat him up he sics his daddy's lawyer on you and you end up eating out of the garbage can because you lost your home and belongings in the resulting lawsuit. Such a punchable face has never existed since then

The funny thing about the sack of Rome, is that the Italians would later unleash their fury in prose on the Spanish for what happened during the sack when those who led it were mostly German Landsknechte, not Spanish Tercios.
The same about the Spanish fury in Netherlands, the chimpout was led mostly by Swiss mercenaries under the orders of the Spanish, who also received all the shit load of Dutch, German, French and English propaganda but not the Swiss that leaded the chimpout.

That was ESPAÑA not the HRE tho

no, lmao, spanish soldiers were more professional, they received their salaries and they were not as savage as the german mercenaries in the army, plus they were radical catholics so trying to murder the pope himself wasn't part of their agenda.

      >Controls the Pope.
Not at the time Voltaire said this.
      >Controls the Rome.
Not at the time Voltaire said this.
      >most populous European state
Not at the time Voltaire said this, nor at any other time in its history. France alone was always more populated than the entire HRE.

Its worth noting that while he was really critiquing the Habsburg HRE. The late middle-ages and renaissance HRE was essentially a pretty comfy and peaceful feudal federation before the 30 year wars and got its bad reputation from that event. Seriously the Habsburgs ruined everything.

Mozart was kind of asking for it by saying this honestly.
