>Finally read Stoner
>the best novel I've ever read
>read Butcher's Crossing and Augustus
>all three are masterpieces

wow you have bad taste
Do you fellas prefer Williams' Augustus or Yourcenars Hadrian?
Any more books like these?
zoomer moment
please don't make me read another meme book
its not one of lits meme books. its actually really great.
>it's been one decade since Stoner posting became a thing
>how is this possible
You just haven't read any books better than Stoner, which is a middling book. Stephen King is on par with John Williams.
why is this book so overrated on this board?
Is it simply because the protagonist is miserable and also an english professor? aside from that there is nothing really fantastic about it
When you spend your whole life reading books that have something to say, it hits harder to read a book that's just the black and white portrayal of a life. That's it. No commentary. It's just following this guy around.
It's perfect
This is so spot on. I'm at a stage where I want to read about the monotony of life, because I can relate and compare the stories to my own salary slave life.
Just finished The Wayward Bus and it was perfect.
I feel like it's a handful of people memeing it. It's not terrible but it's so forgettable and barely exists outside of this board for that reason.
Oh so it's another Houellebecq
Houellebecq has popularity outside of here, he can actually write. Stoner, as someone else said, isn't even good writing, it's a bland story about a literal cuck, it's boring humiliation porn
Sorry to burst your bubble but stoner is well known within (and even outside) literary circles. Christ, my grandma gave me my copy.
It’s had a resurgence like 20 years ago. It is the poster child of forgotten literary masterpiece
you have no idea what you’re talking about. you’re pushing this masterpiece meme way too hard, it’s very inauthentic
either bait, in which case excellent bait, or moronic, in which case moronic. the hallmark of excellent bait is the inability to tell if it's bait or not
Maybe forgotten “classic” is more appropriate
congrats you just admitted to the whole board you were filtered. maybe stick to sci fi and fantasy books babe
>babe
there really are way too many roasties on this board. and EVERY ONE of them owes me sex.
you could never beat up chris anyway, lol good luck
i don't browse your trooncord
I'm re-reading Faust, babe.
so fantasy right babe?
being filtered by stoner has done irrevocable damage to your brain.....
Troon anons like to self insert as a dickless midwest academic. Baffling shit.
The cover is kino. That's why.
No idea. Its certainly above average I think, but people do seem to over hype it on here.
this book is widely celebrated and has had articles written about its revival in the foremost literary publications on the entire planet. you're simply unaware of life outside of this board.
Of any book to call overrated, you think the one that most english academics call a perfect novel and is widely celebrated as an underlooked classic. This board really has gone downhill
>widely celebrated
>underlooked classic
really makes you think
He's not even that miserable, he lifemogged me hard. Its just a comfy book
it's a mad comfy book and I love it
Butcher's Crossing is probably his weakest novel. Augustus is his best.
>exist
>in print
>nice nyrb versions
>library of american version with all three in one book
They're not exactly ignored by the industry
They're just not part of curriculums for obvious reasons
>obvious reasons
idk look at what is on curriculums should be self explanatory
yes i mean high school and college
and yes that's why you've 'heard of' most books outside of IQfy
It's sad how Williams was by far one of the best writers of his generation, and other than a few critics who liked Augustus, no one noticed him. Guy died thinking he was mid.
because he was
Stoner and Augustus are masterpieces...... Butcher's doesn't quite make the cut bud x
Is this better than Game of Thrones? I'm not sure which should I read first.
Game of thrones is shit
Maybe, I haven't read it yet. But is this one better? I see GRRM and Williams compared all the time what does /lit think? Should I just read Neuromancer instead of Stoner since it seems to be his most popular one?
I'm reading Neuromancer right now and Stoner is better
>GRRM
Yeah GRRM is better than stoner because it has more swords
>Be a creative writing professor in a backwater university in Denver
>Write 3 perfect novels
>Die in obscurity
How did he do it?
Is it really as good as everyobe makes it out to be?
It is kinda great, actually.
My girlfriend gave me stoner and I know she didn't pick it up because of some internet meme because she's a boomer too old to use the internet. So I'll read it but to be clear it's got nothing to do with you, IQfy.
>Stoner? I hardly know her!
Williams was a hack
Augustus>Stoner>Butcher's Crossing
Which is funny cause I was most hyped for Butcher's
