also stem uni in general thread as well, undergrads welcome
I envy americans because you basically do your masters as an undergrad. In Mexico not only is my degree in Math 5 years, but it doesn't prepare me for research.
Why would you suddenly stop finding soijaks fun? They're the ultimate achievement of the internet, you can always be portrayed as one
>They're the ultimate achievement of the internet
The internet itself is.
You sperm.
And no, you clearly unironically believe that.

Kek where did you get that from? Some US mathlets barely take Abstract Algebra by their final year. You get a masters after the first two years of your PhD.
>Kek where did you get that from?
I guess I'm thinking on unrealistic top 100 universities then. Because I always hear how you can choose your subjects, often times even being able to choose graduate subjects in your second or third year.
>You get a masters after the first two years of your PhD
This may be what I'm referring to, you go straight for the PhD, here it's clearly defined to be a Masters before the PhD. Maybe it's just a name thing.
Because regarding the courses, yes I've seen many Mathlets in the US compared to the corresponding semester here.
Second and third semester: Euclidian Geometry, Spivak level Calculus, Linear Algebra (Finite Vector Space Theory).
4 and 5: Second linear algebra course, Multivariable calculus too in an "advanced level".
6 actually starts with baby rudin, which by now should be pretty natural for anyone that didn't struggle with calculus and linear algebra. And we had complex variable, to the level of like Ahlfors if you only went through the basics. So we basically had two metric space topology courses on the same semester.
All of these with a computational course here and there.
After that is Measure theory, some Banach/Hilbert spaces, theory of differential equations; and I feel like they are just keeping you for the last 5th year with not much purpose really, maybe it's about preparing yourself to get into a good graduate university.
I'd guess this is average for the US (with no 5th year), and well below average for west europe (specially France)
there are two trillion 0.999...!=1 threads per month, even before COVID it was shit, I bet even before 2016 elections
>two trillion 0.999...!=1 threads per month
Silly anon, 0.999! isn't equal to 1. You can't take a factorial of rational numbers to begin with.
old man here, soijacks are the worst evolution in memery I have ever seen
Why
Are you familiar with the phrase "effect on"?
No
When two people bicker very much, and suicide becomes related...
How is this related to basedjaks Mr. Smith
Axiom: Accusation weaponized, learn autonomous assassination.
Have you had your medications today sir?
unpleasant to look at and the "I will quote what you say and attach this picture" template is cancerous, adds nothing interesting or humorous to the discussion
And yet, it is an inseparable part of internet culture now. Don't let it get to you old man.

Good luck getting a real job, gay.
My dream is to never have a real job and be a professor in really any non-Chinese asian country.
cant believe there are homies writing their PHD's who still post basedjaks on iranian salmon fishing forums.
my PI posts a basedjak pose in the lab Slack every time we get new equipment delivered kek
ahahaah what the frick, how do I find a PI this based? Are you even american?
Starting my MD, sorry
iwnb phd
t. 27yo brainlet
Wow by 27 I already had my PhD and was making six figures at AI startups
My dad is a billionaire and I was already a billionaire the second I was born.
i just got my bachelor's at 33, i would unironically rather kill myself than do a phd, not that i could ever get accepted anyways
>i would unironically rather kill myself than do a phd
why
Probably hated his undergrad and can't see himself studying more.
going to university was like paying money to be miserable
This. Its only nice when it's over, Rose tinted glasses etc. I don't get why people even enjoy the modern academic environment. People aren't given and don't take the time to develop new theories, they just try to publish on top of what has already been done. Some rare exceptions and yes there are still incredibly intelligent people in academia - but their capacity to deal with the brown stuff that comes out of a cows behind far exceeds their intelligence
I didn't learn a single thing in university.
It was just desperately trying not to drown under an avalanche of work, struggling to complete assignments and then instantly brain dumping everything and moving on to the next task for """"points""""
I didn't learn a single god damn thing.
Sounds like engineering school, lmfao.
Can confirm that engineering school is like this.
Surprised you didn’t learn this from highschool. If you take fast track courses like I am its two days each day, 40 day course. School is just suppose to expose you to what your suppose to learn, its on you to go an learn it later on your own.
I'll be getting the bachelor in my early 30s as well (though remember, it's a europoor country where unis are more classic medieval Bologna style of "how about you do your own shit" and less American adult daycares, so it's not really embarrassing).
I laugh at people that refuse to get a degree just because they are "too old". This just boils down to social rejection fears, which aren't even actually happening in people's minds.
I mean if that's the only reason not to go back to school. If you make mad dosh w/o degree and don't miss the academic experience, great.
I graduated at 30 now.
Also Eurogay. Did better in my dissertation than anyone in my class of 170 students. Took a job and will do an MSc part time.
i hate being old. i should had my phd at my current age. it is over
How can I get my employer to pay for a graduate degree on my behalf?
If your grad school doesn't pay you to get the degree, that means you and/or the gradschool are shit. Either way, that's a sign you shouldn't be going there.
Employers will not pay for a PhD, but it's pretty common for them to pay for a master's, at least in the USA. If it's a job that involves STEM, then ask your boss about it or look at company policy/ask around.
Starting PhD in Racism and Misogyny
not me, i only applied to one grad school and was rejected kek
Apply again this year if you really want to do one anon, if you're not "of an underrepresented background" then you pretty much have to be either well-connected or a genius to get into a top 50 school PhD program. I applied to 8 programs, got 4 interviews, and was only accepted to one.
>femgroid tripgay
IQfy is officialy a normie board now.
Nowhere. I don't have a good reason to start a PhD. I am trying hard to find one, but I am just already too sick of the educative system rituals of grades, classes and many other pointless shit. Sorry if derailing a bit here, not really my intention.
I'm a senior software engineer at Microsoft and am in the top 2% of the GRE. However, I had a GPA when I last went to college (many years ago) of 2.5. Any hope of getting into a decent school for a Master's?
You could probably get into any master's program you want tbh
I also come from a shitty no name school.
I regret forgoing Graduate School for industry
With a very high GRE score, professional experience (assuming you're talking about CS), and reccomendations from people that taught you there's a good chance you could get into many PhD programs not to speak of Masters.
your experience now outweighs the gpa.
>soiteens are now getting PhDs while still soidueling on 4chud
>oldtroons barely finished high school
/qa/ won
graduated last year from undergrad, just started my first job... literally a month in and already want to go back to do a grad degree. Academia just seems so much more fulfilling and intellectually stimulating than corporate life, but I can't tell if that's the rose-tint talking or if it really be like that.
working for a couple years before a phd is pretty common. Best if you can get rec letters from academics though. Keep in touch with the professors you know.
yeah, I know but it still feels fricking useless
Your job or the phd? Or both?
job. i have no motivation besides money
what was your motivation in academia?
nawlege, a feeling of contributing to something moderately significant and not just a profit margin, not getting yelled at by nobel laureates, bettering myself and learning more about the world.
I finished McDonalds PhD. Think it's time for quantum science PhD.
physicist here. last year i applied to 4 and got rejected by all of them. got a job as a data analyst for a first world tech company and am going to be a TA for my local no name third world uni next semester. emailed a first world t50 uni professor asking about their research group volunteering myself as a (remote) research assistant. need help bros what else can i do to make my cv better for applications this year.
