That’s just not true at all. The dictatorships in Ethiopia, Angola, Zimbabwe Sudan and Uganda were all backed primarily by Eastern Powers just to name a few. The governments nationalized industries and then pocketed the profits. Usually they then ran the economies into the ground. In many cases these leaders also engaged in genocide and had policies which resulted in massive famine like in Ethiopia for example. The problem with Africa is there is no established rule of law in these nations and the leaders don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves.

Dictators love to cover themselves in medals, I have no idea why.
In a lot of countries the Head of State is also the head of Orders that recognize bravery and hardwork, meaning that by default the Head of State also has the highest grade in the medal of said order.

No he didn’t, he claimed he fought in Burma but he didn’t join the army until like 1947 and was a cook.
He made it up to sergeant in the Kings African Rifles and served in Kenya and then on cattle rustling prevention in Uganda, and then to lieutenant just before the British left. As he was only one of a couple of ugandans with commissions, which meant post-independence he was able to climb the ranks fast.

It does a lot to show how hard it would actually be for even a willing dicator to improve anything.

Kwame Nkrumah helped to industrialize Ghana. Mugabe gave a lot of Zimbabweans access to education. Kagame and Museveni have been praised in the West. Houphouet-Boigny and Hastings Banda were also loved by the West. If nothing else, they probably got their countries a lot of western aid. Julius Nyerere seems to have been relatively benevolent and non-corrupt, but his economic development schemes don't seem to have worked out too well.
