You read a book per day? How much did you retain
almost nothing probably
i don't read manga
What did you read?
+gilead by marilynne robinson which is on a different shelf as it was a reread
oof
have a nice day, you attention-seeking homosexual
Why do you even bother speedreading mediocre to shit novels that you retain nothing from? Are you that big of a homosexual you just want to pad your goodreads?
I would be infinitely more impressed if you read just one Dostoy novel in that timeframe and retained enough to lucidly discuss it
well i read these books because i was interested in them and enjoyed them for the most part. some of those novels were very good. especially the marilynne robinson. which have you read and disliked out of interest?
i have read plenty of dostoyevsky previously and may reread the idiot at some point this year.
Have you read her continuation of Gilead? She is on volume 4 now.
i'm going to read lila this week, haven't acquired jack yet but definitely will at some stage
Manga doesn't count, OP.
Two books down already but I started reading them last year.
>two books down already
>it's the end of January
Well, you're still reading more than 95% of IQfy I guess.
I've finished 4 so far and I'm halfway through 2 others
You read two books at the same time?
Keep up the good work OP!
I'm on second book. A bunch of DNFs between first and second. It's alright.
What did you read?
Finished crime and Punishment much faster that I'd expect. Still got 8 books remaining until june to read and bought 3 more.
halfway through my first book
The Fisherman - John Langan
Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the First Global Empire - Roger Crowley
Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers - Jacques Vallée
The Mothman Prophecies - John Keel
I don't log my read books on anything.
>Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the First Global Empire - Roger Crowley
I read this one. They were daring these luso-homies.
>quit drinking
Good for you anon, eight months sober here. I'm reading a lot more than when I was drinking. It's good to remember that alcohol stole those small pleasures from me.
How do I quit drinking?
It's a terrible cliche but it's true- just take it one day at a time.
I read
Stella Maris
The Counselor (screenplay)
For Whom the Bell Tolls
All’s Well That Ends Well
Currently reading the Tao Te Ching and Egil’s Saga from The Sagas of the Icelanders. They make a nice contrast.
>Tao Te Ching
tell me more
What's a good english translation?
>What’s a good English translation
Not the one I’m reading. wienersucker doesn’t even know Chinese. But as a student of Zen Buddhism he felt like he had an understanding of the Tao.
Fricking boomers gonna boomer.
i like stephen mitchell for if you just wanna read something cool and aren't actually studying it. it's real nice, regardless of how accurate it is
same with his gilgamesh
Not Cleary, he phoned it in pretty hard.
Well, I'd be fricked if I was trying that, kizaru-kun. Besides not speed reading, I'm on page 920/1180 of Memories of Ice (started it on late December), and before continuing with the next brick Malazan volume I'm considering reading one or more of:
Ulysses
Gravity's rainbow
Moby Dick
The Golden Notebook (I probably need to read a female author for a change, Piranesi is the only one in the last few years)
Master and Margarita
Wyrd Sisters
Suggestions anons? I'm only intimidated by Ulysses tbh.
*honestly the "desu" in the end was meant to be "desu" I don't know what IQfy phoneposting witchcraft just happened
kek, what is this, a filter? Not too savvy though I could claim oldhomosexualry
Variation of ‘to be truthfull” was being overused to the point where it was filtered to tbh.
New new new
Haha. It's like s0i being converted to soi
I've read Arkadi Babchenkos "One Soldier's War in Chechnya" and Sven Hassels "GUP".
After a rough start, I have read two books so far. I'll be reading more than one book a week after a few months. I'm just busy.
I'm soon finishes with my first book this year, 100 years of solitude. Great read but it demands a slow read to follow, and remember, which characters are who.
That was my first book of the year, I really didn't like it throughout 90% of it but it all came together and redeemed itself and 'made sense' at the end. I somewhat stopped caring about which characters are which and I think that was atleast partially the intention of the author.
I'm at 3 books. I think I'll get through the 4th one today.
>only 40%
My count is only two because I can't resist the charm of a fat 1000 page tome
3/79...
I rolled it so I must complete it. Doesn't work too well with the books i'm reading right now. Herodotus, Proust, and J.K Rowling. I can burn through them but I might need some shorter novel type books to get my numbers up...
Any reccs? Just finished By Grand Central Station I Sat and Wept and enjoyed it.
My challenge is 12 books in French by the end of the year
I've read one book so far and I'm about to finish a second one, double the length of the first
I find less and less time to read more substantial books as my time shrinks I just want to sleep and drink. I have taken a liking to poetry, however. Recently, Pizarnik has been keeping me company.
That's insane, im at 3 and that is good for me.
7/59. Currently reading The Myth of Sisyphus.
Will have these finished by end of January
Meeting the Shadow
Siddhathra
Odyssey
Arn: the knight Templar part 1
