I keep hearing rumors that there is going to be an internet blackout soon. Under what scenario might this be a real possibility?

>On September 30, 2021, the IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 certificate will expire.
>devices that would be affected by the expiration of the certificate will be those that are not updated regularly, such as embedded systems that are designed not to update automatically or smartphones that run versions of software from years ago.
>“Users running earlier versions of macOS 2016 and Windows XP (with Service Pack 3) are likely to face issues, along with clients that rely on OpenSSL 1.0.2 or earlier, and older PlayStations 4 that have not been upgraded to a newer firmware. "
It's not an internet blackout. It's old shit not being kept updated.
the same homosexuals who wrote whitepapers and ran wargames on how to deal with a global coronovirus pandemic 2019 are now talking about internet blackouts and cybercrime is the Next Big Threat™
listen zoomers:
in the 90s they said that the millenium 2000 will crash everything because computers cant handle the time reset.
in the 00s they said that everything will crash because the internet is running out of IPs.
in 2010s i dont know right now what the big crash thing was
but never anything happened. its called media propaganda to make people scared. now its the sun erruption bullshit. nothing will happen
>in the 90s they said that the millenium 2000 will crash everything because computers cant handle the time reset.
Because engineers spent the previous decade fixing everything that would have broken.
>in the 00s they said that everything will crash because the internet is running out of IPs
Because of hideous solutions like blocking common people from getting static IPs.
>in 2010s i dont know right now what the big crash thing was
Russia was going to mind control people over social media. Lucky that was prevented also.
>Lucky that was prevented also.
the mind control is working
Sssshhhh, no it's not. 😉
>previous decade
Ehh they actually procrastinated it until like the last year lmao it ended up being a bit of shit shoot as companies rushed to try and make everything compliant. Anyways a lot of systems managed just fine that weren't made compliant and in some cases people just set the system clock back. Wasn't a big deal.
>Russia was going to mind control people over social media. Lucky that was prevented also.
YURI IS MASTER.
>Russia was going to mind control people over social media.
You were doing fine until that. Unless you just forgot the echos around Russia.
The climate is going to be inhospitable meme has been repeated for over 100 years now
Huh, the ocean level actually lowered a little there.
Anyway, it's a bad example. Antarctica isn't ice floating in water, it's metres of ice on a small continent. If that stuff melts we gain a landmass even less useful than Iceland or Siberia or whatever, because it doesn't have any soil bacteria or the other microorganisms farming actually needs, and we lose a lot of the most fertile farmland in the world to ocean level rise. On the plus side most cities get fricked over.
>m-muh ground
nice cope, its mostly below sea level already
You're right though, Iceland is useless.
>slow child posts bait image
>super slow child doubles down on the sheer stupidity
I miss back when the site was full of nerds.
freshwater is not as dense as saltwater, freshwater actually has greater volume than an equivalent weight of saltwater. Thus, when freshwater ice melts in the ocean, it contributes a greater volume of melt water than it originally displaced.
>muh freshwater
ice takes up more space than freshwater, moronic Black person
yes, if you push it under the water, but ice floats
>m-muh floating
with over 90% being underwater, moron
Youre a moron. When theres a bunch of ice FLOATING ABOVE the water level, and said ice ABOVE the water level melts, it raises the level of the water it is FLOATING IN.
Also, melting fresh water into salt water causes the salination levels to change, which in turn will eventually cause the currents of the ocean to change Those currents drive air currents due to heating and cooling effects. Those, in turn, drive weather patterns. Not good things
>When theres a bunch of ice FLOATING ABOVE the water level, and said ice ABOVE the water level melts, it raises the level of the water it is FLOATING IN.
>what is water displacement
Please finish elementary school, anon. I am worried about you.
>Also, melting fresh water into salt water causes the salination levels to change, which in turn will eventually cause the currents of the ocean to change Those currents drive air currents due to heating and cooling effects. Those, in turn, drive weather patterns. Not good things
At least you have a basic understanding here. Can't really argue that except to say heat levels affect water currents a bit more than salination in this regard.
over 90% of ice is underwater, troony
ice is also less dense than water, if you know what that implies
Not the ice on antarctica, which is the real problem.
Not my problem
The one important thing you forgot to mention is that salination levels are tied to the marine ecosystem.
Once those change millions of sea life will start to die, or migrate to places they don't belong completely shifting the food chain and causing potentially billions of human deaths as a result.
this
also: not all the ice is floating, some is on top of soil
I think the caption is wrong. Melting ice actually causes the water level to drop because ice has lower density. Clinatetards can't reconcile this.
If you're gonna be an alarmist, you should worry about the LAND ice you moron.
>that fricking picture
This is like one of those flat earther "proofs," Jesus fricking Christ. It's like magaturds have no concept of proportion, or a frontal lobe.
the earth is flat
kek imagine being a baller in 2021 with so much information
That picture is moronic.
Yes, ice which swims in the water won't rise the water level. The problem is all the ice which ISN'T in the water yet (e.g. on Antarctia or Greenland) because that will increase the sea level once it melts and flows into the ocean.
you're moronic
>in the 90s they said that the millenium 2000 will crash everything because computers cant handle the time reset.
A lot of fricking work went to making sure that didn't happen, it's not like we were magically safe.
The Internet is not a monolith. Its a complex system of many scattered, decentralised parts, although some parts are more centralised than the others.
Whenever google or cloudflare go down, half the internet goes with them.
And that's a good thing. If a site uses cloudflare for anything other than offering a cached version to redirect to, they're moronic. Even using the cached version, they're moronic because there is no functionality so unless you have documentation that no one else offers, people will just go elsewhere until your shit pops back up.
If half the Internet goes down when Google goes down, that is good too. Crayon eaters get filtered out and scrapers get knocked offline for a bit.
It's not a good thing if no one learns from it.
sun is gonna shoot out gay beams and fry ur wires
undersea fibre optical disruption, by Russia.
i swear we've had this rumors and nothing ever happened. which is disappointing
more like BLACKED OUT lmao
