Intel has been stagnant for half a decade, to be on the safe side get an AMD CPU, they're better and support old motherboards longer. Also they're better and will be for at least a 2-3 years

AMD, intel's cache is limited in size, this directly effects it's performance when you do anything that efficiently uses every thread or you end up maxing out two threads on the same core.
Intel makes a good core, but a shitty CPU.

    intel

only threadripper and epyc platforms aren't a fricking joke in the amd side
am4 is pure trash, everything is bugged, they never did any QA and let manufacturers did whatever the frick they want (aka reducing costs and scamming consumers) also amd already stopped trying to improve it and they're sueing whoever is trying to mainline features to linux like various sensors formulas and they refuse to send a tiny pdf file to linux devs with the correct formulas and they refuse to do the tiny MR themselves.
you have to realize how absolutely insane this is, it costs them literally nothing, an intern could do send the MR, it takes 30 seconds to do, but it won't happen because AM4 was already deprecated at launch while zen 4 epyc support is already mainlined...

I have a 5950X and if alder lake is any good then I'm switching back to intel, I don't give a shit about muh housefire, electricity is cheap and I would rather have a working platform than the abomination I'm currently stuck with.
thy have to hire trillions of devs and lawyers to fix this mess, frick amd and frick manufacturers who sell us junk because amd does not care.

Aw shit, I really wanted a good system with a powerful CPU and graphics too bad intel outperforms all of them

Expensive gpus and I think storage as well. Might stay that way but I'd wait all the same. Although I do admit I'm saying that from the position of someone that has no issues with my current setup since I built it not long before this shitstorm started.

I'd go for ryzen 5600x, I don't need that many cores for what I do but the low power draw and high IPC would be nice (compared to my ancient haswell)
but I don't really feel like I need to upgrade yet, maybe in a year or two when ddr5 is a bit more reasonably priced and amd has the crazy 200mb 3D caches

AMD easily at this point, though if rumors are accurate Intel's upcoming CPUs may be faster, at least until AMD also releases something new again.

Depends on what I want to do with it. If I want the best of the best, I'd get AMD. If I want best value for money, I'd get the 10400f or 11400f.

    General purpose/gaming: Ryzen
audio/video production: Intel (some audio and video things don't like AMD), but I'd rather buy an M1 macbook (as shitty as it sounds)
