I don't think so, it is a weird thing to do. Maybe if they ask for it, but just giving them seems weird as hell.

      >it is a weird thing to do
That would depend on the type of book. If it's about getting sexually dominated by latex-clad Japanese schoolgirls, probably not
      >Libraries are not allowed to hold self-published works
Not true. They just have to have an ISBN number.

No, just self pub on Amazon and make the ebook free. It's literally that simple.
While we're at it, no books signings are not good for new authors, that's for big authors to please existing fans.
No your first book doesn't need to lose money, that's cope.
No, your first book probably won't do well, that's unrealistic.
Yes the success of your book is up to you and the preplanning leading up to its release.

They'd just put them in the stack and forget about them.
You do realise that libraries store thousands of books you never get to see, because shelf space is limited?

Yeah. That's how Hemingway got his foot in the door.

No. Get the library to order your book for you, and you'll get paid for it.

Libraries only order books from other libraries, champ.

No they don't. I've made about fifteen bucks this way.

Only downside is that they will only order through Amazon, so you only end up earning a tenth of the actual cost of the book.

you can request your library to stock a book, there should be forms for this at the librarian's desk. simply request your own book.

Most libraries have policies rejecting them, including dissertations, unless they get picked up by a real publisher.

The library I worked at didn’t convert donations into catalogued items, they’d give them to Friends of the Library to sell in their stores/events. The only things catalogued were items specifically requested and upon receiving said request a library tech goes through a list of recent requests and will check in library journals for reviews of the work if there are any, then determine whether to purchase some for the library/library system. The selection process is esoteric enough to be boiled down to personal preference once they find one or more review.
