>If you try to imagine, as nearly as you can, what an amount of misery, pain and suffering of every kind the sun shines upon in its course, you will admit that it would be much better if, on the earth as little as on the moon, the sun were able to call forth the phenomena of life; and if, here as there, the surface were still in a crystalline state. Again, you may look upon life as an unprofitable episode, disturbing the blessed calm of non-existence. And, in any case, even though things have gone with you tolerably well, the longer you live the more clearly you will feel that, on the whole, life is a disappointment, nay, a cheat.

So what if life has suffered for billions of years on this planet? We have trillions of years to make up for it. Hell is what created us, but heaven will be created by us.

      Boohoo cry me a river

      I will refute Schopenhauer.

even your own ideology supports advancing the species since this would allow us to find other planets and kill all life that we can find, to make sure that nothing evolves again. We would also have to destroy the whole planet with a Death Star so that life on earth couldn’t evolve. But by that point we should have already developed genetic engineering to make everyone intelligent, good-humored, energetic, and life-affirming, while AI does all the mindless and painful labor. And there won’t be any more pathetic homosexuals like you to complain about suffering. You are the one who is coping. Rather than blaming yourself, you blame the whole world. Which is precisely why people like you will be outbred.

there is no way an actual living human being thinks this is a response to the quote. I don't even know where to start but this is not a quote about killing everyone, I won't even touch the moronation of your aliens argument

I also love this pathetic homosexuals argument like you hold some superiority over me, i lift more than you, make more money than you and have more sex than you. I've accepted life as it is and make the best of it doesn't mean I can't see that it's pointless, enables the worst atrocities imaginable and that I have no desire or obligation to keep it going

            >life is pointless
this literally means nothing but that you personally are afflicted with the lack of drive or satisfaction from life. It’s a subjective problem.

no it means that if lifes purpose is the subjective quality each person ascribes to it and many of those ascriptions have contradictory qualities then it's not hard to consider they aren't talking about anything at all. I also don't think your or my comfort can be used to counter a greater argument about the insane amount of suffering in the world today and throughout history which is what quotes like these tend to be encompassing, I live a relatively banal life but a lot of people are basically in hell, and all that for what?

A future world where there is no suffering.

            >subjective problem
you mean a personal problem? sure, no problem there, live your life however you want.
antinatalism isn't about you however, it's about someone else, that's the point, the moment you have a kid it stops being purely personal.

yes I agree, people like you shouldn’t have kids

So humanity suffers so that in the future humanity won't suffer. What amount of torture would you be willing to go through for the future of humanity hypothetically?

            Anonymous

I would be willing to be tortured for the rest of my life. I don’t believe that “I” will die and that someone else will experience the trillion-year paradise that we create. It will all be experienced by me. It’s unfortunate that we have to evolve and suffer to achieve it, but that’s what we have to work with.

If you mean heaven/paradise it will drastically and brutally accelerate the imminent destruction of the planet. Yes, because that's what we're doing. Our species is the most destructive of all

        1) even if the planet is destroyed, heaven is literally in the heavens. We will colonize the whole galaxy
        2) every conscious experience is important because we are all the same fundamental self

But not all pain is negative anon. Sometimes though pain, you become more whole. Sometimes pain shapes you into a better person, more empathetic, more understanding of other people, more at peace with your own self...

      not anon.
I can never be at peace, that's not how life works. (to me anyways) im never calm (ever). there is always something wrong, always missing out, life is too big, too meaningless and has way too much pain to offer.

I get that perspective. But also imagine for a second you get in your own version of utopia whatever that looks like, and pain is inexistent.. do you think you'd have more or less depth of character, better insight? Imo, I think if a version of me lived in utopia, it would be so shallow, like the characters in brave new world. now i know some people tend to act as if going through pain makes you more virtuous and use that idea to dismiss the person's pain... and maybe some pain is just pain and doesn't make you grow as a person or maybe some pain destroys you and has a nefarious effect... but my point is i guess pain isn't inherently bad.
