Absolutely not lol. It's just an edgy, depressed, and narcissistic teenager's wet dream. The twist here is that the entire thing is an autobiography, though fiction.

this, it's a very juvenile fantasy of what epic troubled artist's life, although some of that stuff supposedly did happen to him including him committing suicide with that one b***h and she drowned

one of the better parts of the book was when he said he didn't know what any of it meant or believe in it and the guy leading the meetings was terribly ugly, he was based in that regard

Do you have an argument to refute that, and what about the story did you find particularly dark?

Dark stories are usually bad thing --> hope. Dark stories like No Longer Human where the author offs himself are bad thing --> repeat forever. It's just an endless ride of confusion and turmoil with no up or down, no exit.

I will never understand how youtube went from filthy frank videos being the most popular thing to shitty pseud hour long video essays about fricking nothing.

youtube died after frank left. It was painful to see Idubbbz becoming a cuck and h3h3 showing his true israelite side.
Now yt is just hatchery of video essayists who in reality make 5h summaries of whatever media they're commenting on, zero originality, yet everyone jerks off over a content that brings fricking nothing. Now that yt is intentionally trying to make their website worse, discriminating users who don't want to see their moronic fricking ads, maybe it will one day fall

what really pisses me off is that i just know that the people who make these videos haven't read an actual essay since high school. no curiosity whatsoever, they're just making these "video essays" to look smart.

YouTube peaked with Annoying Orange and died with Filthy Frank, though.

This guy doesn't even do video essays, at least when it comes to books. Haven't seen his other contrnt. But he just retells the plot and may make a few personal commentaries here and there. And the videos are so long that by investing a bit more time you could read the actual book.

      >After fighting the addiction for a year, in October 1936 he was taken to a mental institution,[16] locked in a room and forced to quit cold turkey. The treatment lasted over a month. During this time Tsushima's wife Hatsuyo committed adultery with his best friend Zenshirō Kodate.

So is this guy just going for “/lit/core” reddit favorites one by one? He’ll probably do Infinite Jest, Moby Dick, Stoner and Brothers Karamazov. No original thought, no original taste, wouldn’t be surprised if his “take” on those books are a regurgitation of IQfy and reddit posts on those books.

As far as japanese depression kino goes, I found Kokoro much better, and perhaps it wasn't as bleak, but its bleakness felt far more real, so it hit harder.
