    >oppression is when there's a standing army
In some feudal societies the warrior class could freely kill members of the underclass with little to no punishment. That's oppression.

Feudal Japan had kiri-sute gomen where a samurai who felt his "honor" (Bushido never existed outside of the philosophy of royal bodyguards) was insulted was legally allowed to murder a member of the lower class.

        >under conscription or total war
Under conscription or total war you're getting trialed and punished for killing civilians, unless you're fighting in a 3rd world country on behalf of western powers, either as government agent as it was during Condor, or as a private contractor

Hiroshima was a legitimate military target and so was Dresden, no matter how tragic it all was

and that's only the total war part of my argument, the conscription part was more about how the military elite could send underclass people to an inevitable death just for their petty glory. Hence the paths of glory pic

            >military elite could send underclass people to an inevitable death just for their petty glory
Military elite is actually under command of economic elite. Behind every petty glory there are someone's money and real power

Military elite members are the brothers, cousins etc. of the members of the economic and political elite. Especially during the conscription era.
Point is, those people killed more poorgays in a century that feudal lords did in a thousand years.

True. But this is the face of progress. We have machines in the goods making department, we have arms which demand less time and body build to master, so we need both more men in the trenches and more effective extermination devices.
I actually expect that new wars are going to result in new development of automatic production lines, eventually excluding humans from direct manufacturing process and making economy planning more effective

Anon having a military aristocracy monopolizing military skills and the right to wage war leads quite often to oppression of the underclasses. Just look at the height of Feudal Europe & Japan.

With professional standing armies, state militias, or conscription, at least military knowhow spreads among the people and allows them to fight back vs. elite oppression, like what Medieval City States or Chinese peasant rebels do.

Neither were feudal. You're a moron. Feudalism is an invention by historians that was never true

    >What's the problem?
Pitched battles in medieval era were rare. They were mostly sieges (where the people starved inside the castles hoping a relief army will come) or raids in the countryside. The French called these raids chevauchee. Soldiers would march through villages, burning/looting/raping/pillaging in order to break the enemy will to fight.

So yeah, it really was oppressive and shitty for the commoners.

Wow I am so glad to be a German, Russian, English, French, Austro-Hungarian or Italian man born in 1896. I am finally free of the heckin noble bullies oppressing me and kicking over my fruit stand. Things look great as long as my democratizing national state doesn't decide to pitch my entire generation into an inferno :). What are the chances of that though?

The modern era is the most oppresive and psychologically evil in written human history by several miles. Just look at mk ultra and all the weird shit our governments have done.

It does not compare at all when you say peasants had to give up 40-60% of their produce to their lords when they had a lot of vacation days while we have to work 1-2 jobs to make ends meet, pay to get a fake education, get vaccinated for viruses that dont exist, take pills that damage us, get brainwashed and addicted by tv and smart phones and then on top of that we have to pay taxes on our salary, taxes on all the goods and services we buy, income taxes and more taxes and custom duties on other shit. The modern world quite literally makes the Devil look like a fricking amature in terms of creating torment and evil while subtly getting people to accept it.

If medieval peasants saw the way modern man lived they would probably try to kill us to release us from our pain and torment because modern man is a complete and utter slave detached from any sort of humanity whatsoever.

To truly grasp just how evil and fricked up the modern world is to go mad in terms of all the lies and bullshit we are fed about our past.
