That is subjective. While I could use normal windows 10 fine, I prefer using Openshell start menu.

To be fair, 7 was decent out of the almost out of the gate. There were BSODs and broken taskbars (you really think 10 invented those?) for the literal launch-day adopters, but they were mopped up in a month or two.

It was basically Vista, which had been on the market for 3 years at that point. Plenty of software that took advantage of its (and Vista's) features was available already, both third party and first party - does Office 2007 not ring a bell?

      Anonymous

No one cares that a few XP-tards were complaining about their shitty 2001 themes and the fact that Start had an actually functional search bar.
Worst-case, they just used a custom theme (which didn’t get overwritten and broken with updates like on Win 10) or Classic theme.
Win 7 really was that good on launch. Absolutely no problems on fresh installs.

XP was messy on RTM, prone to malware, broke compatibility with plenty of 90s software, and only got its status with SP2, when hardware and software was updated enough to work flawlessly, and security became a thing.

This. Most of the morons spewing the telemetry crap don't realise that W7 is nearly as chatty as W10 with basic telemetry on by default. The only reason they care is because MS decided to actually put in settings that expose this in Win10. Had they not, most of them wouldn't give a shit.

You understand that there's no official list of IP addresses which function as endpoints for Microsoft's spyware / ~~*telemetry*~~ services, yes? They've only released lists of domains which serve as endpoints. Exhaustive research has shown that the IP addresses associated with such activity frequently shift, so there's no real way to be sure that you're blocking everything - or even the majority of this stuff - with your firewall, especially if you're just using a software firewall on Windows itself. You can block the components of Windows that transmit this data, but then - by necessity - you are preventing components like Windows Update, Defender, the MS Store, Edge, and more, from functioning properly (if at all). The only real way to use Windows 10 and up without any spyware, is to build a custom image of Windows for yourself, using guidelines from some project like AME. Even though it is simpler on 7 and 8 (because there is demonstrably less baked in spyware), you still cannot be 100% sure that you're fully covered.

I mean, get real, Windows has become the most invasive and least private OS in existence. You can engage in apologetics all you want, but facts are facts, and facts don't give a shit about your brand loyalty, your games, or your nostalgia.

Windows 10 Ameliorated has none of these issues, and makes no unsolicited connections (as opposed to 7's some unsolicited connections).

You can run things with admin privileges in AME.

You do understand that RID 500 is special? Anyone can be an administrator, but there's only one Administrator.

I guess I don't know. Why is RID 500 special?

            Anonymous

Because it's the only user with RID 500 (obviously).
It doesn't have UAC applied to it in any situation.
It can't be deleted or removed in any way (which makes me worry precisely how AME has "broken" it).
It's often the assumed principal used in (for example) offline-booted data recovery software.
There are quite a few reasons.

I'm sincerely fricking surprised by that amount. It has to be some kind of dark pattern shit to cause it.There's no way that amount of people have computers less than five years old. I expected adoption rates like 8 because 11 is simply half-finish tablet rubbish with arbitrarily high hardware requirements.

      What are you speculations, anons?

Stop taking IQfy and its fetish for old ass hardware as representative of the general global population. PC gaming is getting more and more popular every year and the only legitimate existential threat it has is cryptoBlack folk.

the ccp has a deal with microsoft to mandate using the latest opperating systems so their spyware works so most adoption is probably china.

muh baby duck is an insult generally used by ipajeets and tiling window manager pedophiles (who should be put on a list) when you tell them that you like having a cascading applications menu and a task bar - the implication being that you only like something because it's what you grew up or are familiar with and that you are a thicko pleb. if you then explain why you like the thing logically, they will continue to post "baby duck" over and over again

YA SEE MISTER, your dreamcast has a secret camera and microphone in it and a cellular transceiver and streams video and audio 24/7 via the windows CE botnet EXCEPT if you run linux (with systemd of course!) on it in which case it's totally safe dude! trust me!!!

they need a core win os with a win2k ui
they can sell feature packs that add shiny uis among other things
break it down and break it apart so it can be built up
it's too disjointed and considering they haven't fixed the quality of the store or addressed the abysmal ui design of apps, even while RT and Phone withered and died is telling me they are incapable of executing a cohesive project the size of windows.

too many cooks in the kitchen. its a shame. guess they better shovel more linux into it

Why is IQfy suddenly so hostile towards Windows 7 users? Even just a couple of years ago we would talk about how to keep things working with newer AMD motherboard drivers, or how to debloat the install using the enterprise versions.
