Scripting is what you do with a shell, <400 lines of shell script is worth 3-6x it's weight in python and anything larger should be written in the statically typed language C, so you can just compile and know if the program works or not.

Honestly, python libs are so inconsistent that I always prefer to use GNU/Linux utilities. Not even trying to make a "interjection moment", but tools like gnuplot, or bison, do most of the legwork for my data analysis needs.

if you want to code scripts, just use something like bash or shell which will likely fit better for that purpose, game engines would be C++ and websites can be hosted with HTTP web application frameworks.

Shell can work alright for very simple tasks, but it's hellish beyond a certain threshold. Python is great for more advanced scripts. It can handle complex data, it has sane error handling, and you can use libraries that aren't molded into the argv/stream of bytes paradigm.
This is one of the tasks it was originally designed for.

C++ is a reasonable choice for creating an engine but not always for using one. It adds a ton of complexity that may not be worth the performance gains.
If you're creating a simple 2D game on your own then PyGame is entirely reasonable. (Mind that much of PyGame is written in C.)
