Moriae Encomium is on my reading list. His Latin is fun and his style is cool
catty little b***h
Pretentious barbarian who’s the reason for the cancer known as reconstructed pronunciations. No shock he’s Flemish, the most soulless people I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting.
smoel houden Ahmed
Im not Arab like your capital and I don’t know what sort of germanic gibberish you spat at me
hey, you're the seething little man from the other thread!
>flemish
Do you have any idea where Rotterdam is?
He was a good advisor to Emperor Charles V
His loss of relevance is because he was too much of a fencesitter for either Catholics or Protestants to really make him part of their collective stories of the Reformation. He thought that Luther shouldn't have split from the Church but at the same time he wanted to throw out the deuterocanon just like the actual Protestants did.
If he'd picked either side more explicitly he probably would've ended up better remembered.
yeah but I think that's mainly what made him based. I recently read a biography of him by Zweig and he is the greatest centrist in all history I have ever seen. no one could move this homie an inch, he rejected every prestigious position and gift just to sit in his room reading classics and writing in latin.
Radical centrism is too based to exist. NormalBlack folk call us cowards, when its they who are afraid.
they called him a coward and ridiculed him for it too. he was too aloof and believed in a world without wars under the aristocracy of the intellectually elite, neither protestant revolution nor the catholic church could get his approval lol. what's funny is that he basically sowed the seeds for protestant reformation through his satire works criticizing the corruption of the church etc., Luther was influenced by him. but his inactive position basically costed him a name. it appears he was the greatest in his time, kings and the church was basically begging to get an affirmation from Erasmus, Luther sent letters to get his support. but the autist was dead set on not siding with anyone. he wanted peace and to be left alone.
Does that bio get into his leadership of the respublica litterae?
I don't remember for sure but I don't think it does.
Ah bummer. It would be nice to get an exhaustive treatment of the invisible intellectual scene.

According to Hugh Trevor Roper his ideas bred capitalism
A majority of the nutrad Catholics on the "Online Right" rn aren't humanists a la Erasmus or More, and if they don't begin to rally around such figures they are sure to fail. I predict a mass conversion of secular online rightists to Islam unless this happens

There is nothing funnier than the LARPsaders on this board and others. If they actually believed instead of using Catholicism as a based and trad coat of paint on their internet persona they would be Protestant like most believers today
