Steam Deck was out specced by a slew of other things, that really wasn't the point though. Price, unique controller functionality, and SteamOS support were.

And the thing in your pic is no where near the 399 entry point of the steamdeck

Or you can just install your own SSD in the 399 one or use an sd card. The only difference in the decks is simply the internal storage and carry bag

            >Or you can just install your own SSD in the 399 one or use an sd card.
Not anon, but didn't the 399 lack a NVMe port? I remember reading it only had onboard eMMC and expandable storage was only with microSD?

You can upgrade the SSD in the base model
            https://www.gamerevolution.com/guides/704710-install-steam-deck-ssd-larger-hard-drive#:~:text=Yes%2C%20users%20can%20install%20a,with%20a%20brand%20new%20SSD.

            >The only difference in the decks
you forgot tempered glass screen vs plastic screen

It's simply anti glare, the thing in the OP is nice but without the controls the steam deck offers it feels like it would suck in games. The touch pads, flick controls, and R1/R2 trigger functions are pretty useful.

There is no Steam Deck that has a plastic screen. The 64 and 256 GB models have regular glass screens and the 512 GB model has a nano etched glass screen.

Still nothing that really matches it in it's price category, there was always going to be a Full-U handheld on the way.
Whats funnier is Alienware still haven't launched theirs despite showing the prototype 2-3 years ago and the response to the steam deck showing there is a lot of viability in the market.

Why does that matter to me? I want a good product, not a cheap one.
I'd still pick the good product that costs more over the shittier cheap one, even if I was the only person using it or if YouTube ecelebs said it's bad (when it's not).

Unironically yes. Some of the best devices I've had were niche chinkshit.
I guess west profits less, specially with things like Deck where they loose money anyways, so it's built extremely cheap, meanwhile Chang doesn't give a shit about 10 cents of copper that makes 10C difference when he already profits 40%.

so how do they design/build these handhelds? can you custom order one yourself if you pay them? I always wondered why china shits these things out when sanctions are supposed to prevent them from getting modern chips. Why can't we have this shit in the west?

Windows is free on sub 10 inch devices. It also has SteamOS.
I don't know why you'd get a gaming device with limited performance and then make it worse though, who gives a shit about the OS for a device made of muh bing bing wahoo shit.

        Anonymous

I already do all my gaming on a Linux PC and the performance is great.
        >Windows is free on sub 10 inch devices
Even when I used Windows I never paid for it, I got the license from a sticker from a used laptop. Money has nothing to do with it, I wouldn't accept Windows even if they paid me. Windows is not getting into any of my devices and if a device comes with it, it gets wiped and replaced with Linux immediately.

          >I already do all my gaming on a Linux PC and the performance is great.
it's not about great or not, it's about there always being either a overhead because you're running windows games or limited library because you're playing native linux games (most steam games are proton and not even native linux)

            Anonymous

Frequently running proton is better for performance because it's not going to randomly shit the bed because of some fricked windows dll.

Huge caveat: By the time any of these actually launch and are available AMD will have debuted the Phoenix Point APU at CES, so the entire Rembrandt family will be outdated. Thats how tech works, brainlet. There is always something hotter just around the corner.

I get the 8 core part - they are not valve and cannot ask AMD to make a special APU just for them that would prioritize graphics, but why insist on a higher-res screen that will be wasted anyway and just increase the price?
