The brutality of nature is indifferent. The brutality of man is predetermined and directed or intentional the majority of the time.

    I'd say man

Man is much more evil, for he is much more responsible.

There are animals that torture and play with their prey for fun.

Animals are straightforward, acting in the same self interests

Humans are the ones with a capacity for cruelty, they are the ones who understand and empathize with the pain of others, and can render a source of pleasure out of that. A predator animal doesn't understand suffering, and doesn't want you to suffer, they're acting on innocent impulses.
A human being may have no desire except for you to suffer, and they will accomplish that in ways far more effective than an animal could ever accomplish.

In no way are animals less brutal than humans.

Depends what you mean by brutal. Only humans are capable of conceiving things like ethics, the idea we should work for the happiness of all conscious beings and going out of their way to work towards that.

When humans are evil, when they torture someone, or chop down a rainforest which I suppose is evil if done excessively, they are usually following their biological programming. They want to get rich and snort cocaine off a hooker's ass or they are emotionally deranged. They are no different from animals, like a swarm of locusts eating everything in sight. Animals don't care about maintaining an equilibrium with nature, when equilibrium emerges it is because predators are thinning the herd or something.

Human ability to work against their biological programming is limited, but only they are capable of doing so. Only humans can deliberately eschew chopping down a rainforest and create a nature preserve. I agree nature is special, even the parasitic wasps, but I don't really agree with greenpeace vegan r*dditor antinatalist transsexuals.
