hi IQfy, I never liked the idea of putting marks on my books, but if you want to learn from them, specially from non-fiction books, you have to. What alternatives do I have to putting marks on the pages of my precious books? the whole idea sends shills through my spine

A notepad, hello???!!
This is revolting. Why write all that shit down? Just think it, if you forget your own thoughts that's on you. If you must write a dumb ass essay for every page do it in another notebook.
You don't read
Unironic mental illness.
It is my property.
Ask your mum about her ex libris tattoo
And it's on me to put whatever I want on my book, moron.
I hate school teachers, I hate the fact that I went to school for teaching me this 'method' of ruining books by highlighting them, these troglodytes had the audacity even to tell me I didn't read my books because none of them was highlighted, fricking Black folk, ever since I stopped doing that I haven't looked back.
get a empty notebook and write things down instead of highlightin them? you would probably learn more doin this
I have read hundreds of books and not once have i highlighted or underlined. Just do as this anon says
unironically: thank you. I will use an empty notebook then
The issue is always ease of access to the activity one wants to do. One writes in a book to enhance the process of thinking about and grappling with its ideas. If one writes directly in the book all they need is a pen. If one tries to take notes on a computer they need space and a computer. To write in a notebook they need a notebook. The necessary time and effort to find a spot for both a book and a note book, as well as the attention switching between a notebook and a book become a barrier to entry. It turns into making sacred the act of reading, which leads to needing to be alone for long periods of time in quiet places. Specific rituals. It endlessly expands in the age of consumer technology and makes the entire thing an exhausting activity to think about. All because one wanted to make better the simple act of writing in a notebook. But of course you probably don't have any of these issues and will just say something along the lines of LOOK AT ALL THIS TIME I HAVE AND ALL THIS DICIPLINE BRUH, GIT GUD homosexual. And to that I cant really say anything. It's the same issue with people who hold some kind of purity to a text. Why do we hold sacred the book? I get it if it's borrowed or a library book. But if you own it, I doubt you'll read it, let alone read it twice. But again people on here are going to have OPINIONS, so what's even the point of having a detailed discussion about the subject when this thread is going to necro after someone makes 100 new WOJAK BOOK FOR THIS FEEL threads. What's even the point of sharing? As soon as someone shares the book someone will invariably start an easy argument about the chosen book or their handwriting or something else stupid because hyperfocusing like an autistic butthole 'trolling' and shitposting is easier than a real discussion.
I fricking hate it here.
wow that's a whole lot of text to say "Do what you want lol." go back.
I don't have a time machine to be on IQfy before you got here. I'm sorry.
I just like my books like I like my women: without ink scratches all over the place.
Go to the dollar store and get a pack of scratch pads picrel. you get like 10 of them for 2 dollars and when I have something specific I want to remember, I just write it on the pad and stuff the sheet between pages.
>you have to
Which moron told you that?
He meant causally constrained.
annotating your books is based. never understood why people are squeamish about it. you own the damn book lmao
I could never get into note taking outside of copying the board verbatim in math class or any other class with math.
I do, however, write and draw notes when I'm trying to design something complex but that seldom happens.
I guess I "take notes" by repeated exposure to different resources on the same topic, or even the same resource.
Maybe I just remember stuff better? I don't know.
remember putting colored sticky tabs on your book is reddit. Women love turning their books into sticky note porcupines because it makes them look "smart."
