Hartmann or Schopenhauer, but Schopenhauer would have been left in deserved obscurity if not for Hartmann. Then the world, and writers and artists, would have been spared the afflictions of pessimism and Nietzsche.

Not famous enough to criticize. He didn’t have the impact you would imagine and no one discusses him here. That being said my choice is Mark Fisher although hating him gives me purpose so it’s a double edged sword.

Hartmann is the only reason the world knows of Schopenhauer's existence, he single handedly popularised pessimism in fin de siecle Europe.

No it’s not, that is like saying comic books are evidence of Spiderman.

if you dont believe in any sort of higher power or purpose then why even go on living. i dont understand pessimists/nihilists at all, like lets think for a minute, do you really think that this infinitely complex existence just happened from nothing? nothing in this world is born from nothing, it all has an origin point/creator. and lets say for a minute that there isnt any sort of creator, higher purpose or God, why the frick would you even bother posting here? why would you get out of bed when you have the singular belief that "nothing matters"? grow up

not same anon, but its a double-edged sword, I don' think that erasing Von Hartmann from the discourse would matter much at all, he's a "literally who" among even the more famous proponents of German Pessimism, Schopenhauer and even Mainlander get discussed in greater detail, despite the latter not having an English translation (though I hear its in the works), he's just known as the guy who thinks the entire universe should be destroyed. Having said that, figures like Jung and Steiner wouldn't exist, two figures I admire for different, albeit inconsequential reasons, either by something they practiced in their application or held within themselves only to be put to print. But otherwise I generally agree with (You) and not the anon to which you're responding.

True, Plato's works aren't proof Socrates and Plato existed. No history book is proof that any historical figure existed too. Your post is not proof you exist. Good thing we put all that silly thinking behind us.

          Anonymous

I didn’t say proof, I said evidence. Plato’s works are evidence that Socrates existed because other writes like Xenophon also reference Socrates and neither are written with theological motivations. It would be more unusual for Socrates to be a fake figure than just a real person both are writing about.

The Pentateuch is explicitly religious or mythological and Moses is only attested to in the Pentateuch with no other eyewitnesses.

Regardless if Plato or Socrates are real, it makes no impact on their real/fictional words and ideas, the stories of the Torah/Bible absolutely do rely upon Moses being a literal person.

You say this as if Matthew Mark Luke and John were all mutuals.

The truth is the life of Jesus was real and that these four separate authors probably embellished the same prophecies (and different ones for that matter) that’s why they differed.
Btw before you go on remember that there’s no longer any first hand accounts of Alexander the Great (look it up they’re lost and we have summaries and commentaries on the first hand accounts ONLY) and that Jesus was none the less a commoner, and as such was not written about by most men, nor had inscriptions during his lifetime nor towns named after him.

it's a close call between Saint Thomas of Water and Saint Augustine of Hippopotamus, both are pernicious and preposterous and both attract young incels to their petticoats like mothers cookies.

That said, if it were not them it would be some other pairing of insignificant do-nothings who wore a womans dress and espoused lazy platitudes. Though Augustines lazy platitudes are the worser of the two; the more galling in israeli chutzpah, so I would have to say we go back in time and beat Augustine to death.

he was, he was related to the Rothschild dynasty. I would even wager he was put in the public spotlight to make sure that communism, and socialism by extension, would be forever tarred and feathered by mere association.

indeed i suspect as much. It is of fortune, therethence, that Saint Stalin arose and averted this blasphemy from occurring; the deep tragedy being only his betrayal by his generals as they cowered around his tomb, half-praying half-hoping he would rise from the dead and lead them eternal.
