>10gb of ram just to exist
>20gb of working ram
what in the sweet holy FRICK is valve even doing? it's a fricking game launcher, games are resource hogs as it is. this shit is fricking bloatware.

Troonixers will lick the boots of valve
It's either you opening up a gazillion chat or browser tabs for a better screenshot or a simple memory leak which is a common thing for Electron-based applications. Restart Steam once in a while and you're all good.
Why would anyone build their software on top of framework that's known to commonly have memory leaks?
Ah, to be young again...
>he doesn't know
oh my sweet summer chyllde...
a program that's designed to always be running and launch incredibly resource-intensive games shouldn't have massive memory leaks, period. why does a game launcher need to use an entire GB of ram?
because pajeets rawdogged Steam about a year ago and it never recovered
functional on my device
I wish valve just switched to electron (a native TK would be better but oh well) since they clearly can't do CEF
god I'm so glad I got rid of my steam account. It's good that Valve cares about Linux but it's still useless DRM bloat that I don't need.
It's because they're using Chrome to render the UI, and Google haven't given a shit about RAM usage in decades.
>two shekels have been deposited into your account
shilling epic games have never been as profitable
You should downgrade steam, the older versions still work
they switched to chromium for the ui, this is also likely why they dropped win7 support, since chromium no longer supports win7
chromium-based uis are an absolute cancer on the industry
library -> view -> small mode
there's a horrible memory leak with the moronic news panel that you can't turn off.
this change alone made steam's memory usage stay at 400mb for the entire day instead of slowly crawling towards 8gb.
steam is a fricking shit
i wish they'd at least make a separate minimal version of the launcher, even if it's just command line based, which just functions as authentication and maybe downloads/updates games, just enough to be able to run games without needing to open all of steam and also to be able to run games on the os's they were designed for
like there's no reason why i shouldn't be able to play my legitimate copy of UT2004 on windows xp
i for one am fine with just using cracks to avoid this issue, but i really shouldn't have to
All I wish for is a CLI Steam client similar to legendary. SteamCMD is shit though.
What's shit about it?

>steamwebhelper.exe
AKA, Chromium.
>windows
Since when is steam electron?
t. haven't used steam since 2012
It's not. It's using CEF (Chromimum Embedded Framework)
so Electron with with different name
okay
No.
