My arm-chair theory is that the iPads are using lower binned chips. Which doenst really matter when running iPadOS but could make a difference running MacOS. Apple being Apple will never admit this, but its an explanation as to why iPads have desktop class chips but run gimped software.

Ive switched to iphone in 2013 after getting disillusioned with Android/Nexus devices which I had from the very beginning of Android.
