The front panel ports stopped working for some reason

wait wait im moronic how exactly does that work? i thought GPUs were strictly for graphics-related tasks and most people just use the integrated sound on their motherboards. does the GPU just somehow connect to the motherboard's audio and reroute it? or do some GPUs have built in sound cards too?
im genuinely moronic please be nice

the GPU is connected to the motherboard through PCIE yes
and PCIE can carry any arbitrary data including audio, so some funky nvidia devs or w/e can just implement an audio driver like any other external device dev can for their GPU, and you know if the GPU actually has an audio output then it can work.

      >or do some GPUs have built in sound cards too?
Ofcourse, how do you think you get sound on a 4k tv through hdmi for example?

It's a graphics card, not a sound card.

DP and HDMI support audio along with video, so a graphics card can output digital sound over DP and HDMI. It does not have any of the analog circuitry that a sound card comes with and cannot output or capture analog audio.

        >It does not have any of the analog circuitry that a sound card comes with and cannot output analog audio
then how can they have working 3.5mm audio jacks?

          That's the thing, they don't!

By including a digital analogue converter... which they don't.

That's like $2 worth of circuitry

Why would you need to do that through the GPU?

I don't get it. Why would you need audio out from the GPU?

The real question worth asking is why has 3.5mm endured for so many years? We come up with new connectors every five minutes, where's the new audio jack?

      >where's the new audio jack?
      it's called bluetooth.

        >bluetooth
I hate it. It requires cobalt extracted by Black person toddlers in Gambia, and the signal can have interference and lag. Also I have to charge it
