- a history

IQfy has produced multiple collaborative projects and periodicals over the years. Many of these projects are now defunct, and the few that are still active seem to have uncertain trajectories. There are also solo writers who frequent IQfy and—for better or for worse—their namegayging and shilling has impacted the culture of this board.

This thread is for the discussion of the history of IQfy writing and the future of IQfy. To those that have been involved in previous IQfy collaborative projects, such as The Lit Quarterly, Pinecone, The April Review, miniMAG and &amp: what were your experiences like? Does the drama and infighting surrounding so many of these IQfy collaborative projects inevitably result in their dissolution? Do you think that IQfy has anything valuable to offer for aspiring writers, in terms of critique or support?

Additionally: Are there any new projects in the works? What do you think is next for the so-called IQfy renaissance? And now that a IQfy author has finally gotten a mainstream book deal with a major publishing house, do you think that more of our authors are likely to see similar success?

          >who exactly got a mainstream book deal with a major publishing house?

Probably someone who is adept at wearing knee pads and using a lot of chapstick. If you throw the entirety of the ESG & DEI out of the window in traditional publishing then you still have all the other fakeness that comes with popularity contests in mass media. I watch the big awards shows and the way those people talk about each other makes me want to vomit. If I don't like a book or a writer then I will say so. I have read a good chunk of the selfpubbed IQfy samplings and I have enjoyed what I've read a great deal. Mixtape, Eggplant, Crocodile, Cephalopology, Chicken, etc...and they've all had some merit. None of those books are trying to beat me over the head with any ideological bullshit. I respect that. I tried to do the same thing with Shards but it's tough when dealing with a war like Vietnam. I strive everyday to not be branded some fricking ideologue preaching to my readers. I saw many people in my grad program get trad pubbed because their work was "sad white woman" or "spunky minority" or "quirky nympho Asian" or whatever other identity the publishers think will sell. Mind you, even with their advance and book royalties, they're still mostly working as teachers, tutors, or UberEats. Not one person I've ever known, including my professors in college, made a living off of their writing. It's a bullshit Dream sold to you by Stephen King, JK Rowling, and George RR Martin. It's not realistic and you'll be disappointed if you think it'll ever happen to you.

          Godspeed!

He started shilling his book here last June by posting the cover, but is there any reason to think he's not just a poorly-informed normalgay hoping to cash in on the mythical IQfy market? That's how his threads read. Here's a quote from him:

That an excerpt about Tao Lin give me the impression he knew about IQfy only vaguely, probably got reminded of it by the minor controversy Gardner had on Reddit, then thought it'd be easy to shill here if he played the part by bringing up meme bullshit while casually sucking off the self-pub crowd.

I do not suffer from schizophrenia; such a diagnosis has not been made by any medical practitioner that I have consulted with. Nevertheless, I experienced auditory hallucinations today, prompting uncertainty regarding their origin. This occurrence coincided with a protracted period of sleep deprivation due to apprehension stemming from distressing nightmares. For several hours, I heard my father's voice saying hello repeatedly and calling my name as if he was in the other room, despite the fact that he was not physically present and is in fact far away. This auditory phenomenon, though vivid, could not have been real; therefore I am perplexed about its source. It makes me suspect that I might be developing schizophrenia or some other form of psychosis, and this notion troubles me greatly. However, as I said, there is no diagnosis of schizophrenia within my clinical history.

I haven't been in communication with Ryan since last December because I was advised not to contact him. However, I did speak to him once on Sunday. My reason for doing so was to ascertain whether he was the one posting harmful messages in a thread, encouraging self-harm. Despite my doubts, I felt compelled to find out the truth because the situation was distressing me.

After speaking with Ryan, he assured me he wasn’t the person behind these messages. Consequently, this leads me to suspect Ari might be responsible. The confusion and fear I felt stemmed from my inability to determine the true source of these messages, compounded by Ryan's past behavior where he made similar remarks.

Regarding my medication, there's no issue of losing them as I consistently place them in the same location daily. I believe the anonymous individual making claims about my medication is deliberately spreading falsehoods to mislead others.

The mind has thoughts connected to senses like sounds, sight, smell and more. When memories are created, there is a mechanism to compress them so that the connection is there but the magnitude of the signal is faint.
This is also related to subvocalization. What we think about can be heard faintly in our minds. I experience these things and sometimes hear a voice call by name, sometimes hear explosions which are a bit loud, but it's just my mind. This is my perspective as a healthy, anonymous poster.

There is nothing particularly unique about Taipei that I haven't seen done better in a hundred other works. For the most part he is doing a DFW impression, but he seems to lack real introspection so it comes off artificial. A soulless bug trying to pretend to be human.

I dunno if this is about me bringing Tao up regarding IQfy's latest shill or if you're just bawling to yourself, but regardless of how truly "indie" Tao is or was, he was part of the scene that gets called that, and whatever tenuous association he has with IQfy has probably exposed said scene and its fans to the board. And I'm calling any associated bandwagoning disingenuous.

But then it's another question of "what is a IQfy writer?" and arguments about newbies vs. oldgays and lurk moar and namegayging etc. So I dunno if Gabby's here to make a case for himself or if you have a rant to make about Tao or what, but feel free to run your throat dry on it.

I'm working on the Special Edition, Greyscale Edition, and Kindle version of Shards. Hopefully I'll have it done sometime before summer. Then I can get back to Impyreum, the second book in my three book run with Lamp Standard Press. I'm also going to try and start a nonfiction book of some kind but I'll clue IQfy in on that once it's close to completion.

What am I reading? Currently I'm reading Jason Bryan's book Black Eye Friday because he sent it to me to review and I'm not a complete piece of shit who pretends to care about the validity of the culture I'm associated with and because I promised him I would. So far I'm digging the atmosphere. It is strangely reminiscent of the areas of Los Angeles I used to frequent with my parents. Besides that, I read MOSTLY nonfiction and I'm currently in the middle of a book on the man who claims to have killed Rasputin. Here's the Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1103914

I really am still working on it.

And there will no doubt be other projects, probably just not from the current cast of people. Every one of these projects operates on a cycle, ending because the main actors either run out of time or care. (I imagine it's incidental to when certain people find the free time in their lives.) Then another pops up sometime later. The current cast is in the phase of realising IQfy isn't enough to support their plans, which precedes ditching either their project or IQfy.

The Lit Renaisance didn't die. It was murdered singlehandedly by Tales 2 and Miles' mismanagment of the team including his insecure and megamaniacal lackey David herod.

Nah. David is benign and unimportant and basically irrelevant to major releases apart for contributing some stories here and there. That said his new book is out now and great.

Dammit, no point in keeping up the pretense any longer, you've got me dead to rights. I get out of bed every morning specifically to stop new writers from introducing themselves to IQfy. I do this because I myself am creatively and sexually impotent. I could never put a book on Amazon. Where would I find the material? I've never been to a bar, I drive 5 miles under the speed limit, and have always enjoyed a comfortable middle class lifestyle. Besides, I lack the fortitude to endure such blazing criticisms as "I don't want to read your book." The only time I ever feel any serious emotion is when someone challenges the status quo. You see, I live the way that I do primarily from fear. Not fear of any disease or injury, but rather the fear of being silently judged.

My worst fears have come true, someone has pierced my facade. I bow now to the might of your unimpeachable intellectual independence. Like a wienerroach suddenly exposed to the harsh light of an incandescent bulb I will scurry blindly back to my hive, bumping here and there against walls and furniture and such.

I used to contribute writing to &amp (pic rel in 014) before starting the best-of, and did a couple small (non-writing) things for Unreal. The list of pieces to include in the best-of was initially formed in part by going through old &amp release threads and finding the commentary on which pieces were well-liked, which incidentally led to a sort of historical picture of &amp. Then I got interested in the older IQfy magazine projects and started digging up posts about them and mirroring some of the old project archives. So, this nominally being a thread about the history of IQfy, I stick around to regurgitate whatever details I've dragged out of the archives and old PDFs and dead websites. (There's also a lot of bullshitting in the threads, which I feel marginally helpful in pointing out.)

As shitty as these threads are, they do attract the occasional anon who doesn't realise these threads are only thinly-veiled drama and shill bait. On those occasions there's a chance for actual on-topic discussion, which I think is especially interesting when it's actually people from old projects who see their work mentioned and drop in.

I also browse the IQfy archive for kicks sometimes (better than waiting for something good in the catalogue), which leads to interesting bits. Tonight I found a couple threads from August 2021 talking about what it would take to make a true IQfy cultural scene (

            [...]

            and

            [...]

). Kinda the same stuff talked about now, but with less baggage. Second one was asking
            >What is the 1920s Paris of the 2020s, in terms of literature and culture at large? Is there even such a place at all?
to which one guy said the Parisian bohemians did it out of a form of necessity while being considered weirdos at the time, and that
            >IQfy is the new Paris. The modern day bohemian probably has very little choice in how he lives, is probably far out of step with modern styles and tastes, and probably spends a lot of time seething about society. Now before you get too excited, you need to understand the most critical aspect of the 1920's Paris movement: we only really remember the good ones, but most of them were stupid. Statistically speaking, if you are reading this, you are not one of the profound, insightful "IQfy bohemes" that may one day cause society to look back and wonder what exactly it was we were all doing that made us so cool. You are the greasy moron who is wasting his time before he finally grows up and comes to terms with his mediocrity.
(Other anons pointed him out as wrong in some respects, but hearing people articulate what they think is special about IQfy is interesting/amusing.)

Never went into any of these threads but I see a billion of them. I feel I must ask…why?

            Thinly-veiled drama and shill bait.

            (Nice timing on that one.)

You know what? I would love to help and create a "carved in stone" record of IQfy and all of the people who helped contribute. Even though I get told to kill myself, and we're surrounded by schizos, I love this place man, even the crabs.

One of the things I've been building up to was making YouTube videos to show folks how to take their ideas and turn it into books, whether or not profit is a motive. Helping other people learn to self-express is as valuable as any other self-expression.

The crabs on here never read the work. They simply attack. Notice how nobody is even discussing anything about any of the work posted here? We haven't had a single "IQfy book discussion" thread EVER on this board. Not one chapter of even "Call of the Crocodile" has been posted and discussed. Not one paragraph of "Eggplant" has been talked about, not a single quote from "Chickenworld", nothing about "Shards", no chatter about Woolston's work.

I mean, if there was any discussion of excerpt of IQfy author's work, I have never seen it. The most I witnessed anyone discuss actual writer's work is when The Shitkickers was released and people made fun of the opening sentence. The opener for Black Eye Friday was much better, same with the writing, which is why it was never attacked at all.

The sociopaths on this forum simply attack, attack, attack, which is why there are no new writers here showing off anything they work on. The crabs have effectively shut down any culture from forming. They gather on Discord like a bunch of shut-in troons and plot on how to attack anyone on here, it is quite pathetic how dedicated they are to "managing their forum" as I'm sure that's how they see it.

Truth is, it is next to impossible to actually have a space like this online, because if you can't somehow see these people in a public space sometime and people would have consequences for things they say online, you'll never have honest interactions. For that reason, having local groups is amazing, because if you maintain those connections and friendships, you know that you're getting honesty out of people you might run into on the street or in mutual gathering spaces. Here, it's anonymous, so you have shut-in sociopaths that feel that they own this place.

At this point you’re clearly using this “It’s all Ari and he’s just jealous!” shtick as a weak deflection from criticism, and frankly it’s embarassing. People shouldn’t shill their books here incessantly if they can’t handle receiving feedback that isn’t positive. Anyone who can’t take constructive criticism without making a fool out of themself by seething and coping should stay out of these threads and stick to the /wg/ Discord hugbox. The fact that RJC went on and on about how he welcomed any and all criticism of his book and then proceeded to get all pissy and tell me to frick off when I gave him my honest opinion of his writing is incredibly pathetic.

No, stupid. If you want things to happen then you need to get off your ass and do them yourself. You can go look for another book which has been advertised on IQfy, you can read it, you can try to formulate some clever little observations about the author's lack of talent or terribly misguided, ill-informed worldview. You can record and edit a voiceover and find images for a YouTube video, you can post reviews on Goodreads, you can make memes more engaging than weak-ass AI slop about bucket crabs. You can read pages of submissions from amateurs, you can format them and upload them to KDP, and you can make and finance advertising campaigns. These are all things other people are doing and have done in the interest of promoting a community of outsider artists on IQfy.

Only the problem is that you've totally tanked your reputation so even if you did do the work or put out a clever book, at this point there would be no payoff. No one would think "Hey, Jason Bryan has something interesting to say!" they would just think "Jason is making another low effort bid for niche e-celeb status."

That entire "revamp" is on account of advice I gave to you, yet in the same breath you accuse however many other people for being me. Hell, even Ryan has seemingly recognised the typesetting advice as having come from me.

I generally try to keep the trip in reserve for shit about the best-of or whatever requires some actual proof of identity, and I dislike going back and having to "claim" posts like that (though not the first time I've done it, to be fair), but man you've been constantly misattributing criticism. My critique of Shards has been about your shitty deal with Ryan and his non-starter editing of your work. As far as I can remember I haven't said a thing about your writing in Shards (and I can accept entirely that I wouldn't be able to give a fair critique of it at this point). From how it looks to me, you blame all the negative comments on me so you can dispel it as some grudge I hold against you and Ryan---it's a shallow way to preserve your ego.

And let me ask now: why are you the one doing this revamping when Ryan is supposed to be your editor?

            Anonymous

If the concern is that Lamp Standard Press is using sketchy contracts to scam people then bringing up Chicken World would be irrelevant, considering that it was written by Ryan himself. Ryan would have no reason to sign a contract about the rights to his own book, and would naturally be incapable of stealing his own royalties, so there's nothing to discuss.

Improvidence only came out a couple of weeks ago, and (besides posting a few links to book trailers) David hasn't showed up in these threads to talk about his book or discuss his arrangement with Ryan. In contrast, RJC has spent months attempting to make every thread about himself, which is why he gets the most criticism. The only reason that the Shards contract was ever discussed in these threads at all is that RJC showed up in the aftermath of the Atlas tell-all to shill his book, talk about himself endlessly, and argue with other posters, all while blindly defending Ryan from the controversy that he was embroiled in and dismissing anyone who criticized him as a liar. He bragged about how great Ryan was and promoted Lamp Standard Press as though it was a legitimate publishing business, despite abundant evidence to the contrary. Naturally, anons were annoyed by this, which incentivized them to point out that the preview of Shards was riddled with errors and that the Lamp Standard Press copyright statement within seemed dubious.

I’m not the anon who made the post saying that RJC is right, and I certainly don’t agree with it. I was trying to explain why Shards gets more criticism than the other Lamp Standard releases. It’s not because any one individual is unfairly smearing RJC for unrelated personal reasons; it’s because Lamp Standard is plainly sketchy and haphazard, and RJC has made Shards the most obvious example of the problem by bringing himself up in these threads at every opportunity and feeding the trolls.

Not only is IQfy's book of wienertails still going, there's a steady stream of novels and novellas, from the past 6 months and for the rest of the year. This characterization that everything is gay and dead is not true. Amateur, yes. But not any more dead than a decade ago.

I don't get why the wienertails shit is still going. All the threads were dead and after the first couple were dead and no one seems to care anymore. He should just start putting what's already there into a pdf.

Jason you're horribly obnoxious but you're right on this score.
Over the summer, when &amp threads were a daily occurence, I was critiquing the stories and rating them out of ten. In the following threads, the "crabs" would be regurgitating my negative criticisms ad naseum. They never actually engage with the material, they just spew generalities until they are fed something specific, then they spew that. The poorly edited Hyperborea snippet went entirely unnoticed until I mentioned it a month later, and suddenly the next 4 &amp threads were dedicated to shitting on the editor for this oversight

These people are genuinely just wicked losers. There is no value to be found in these threads or in this community. /wg/ is entirely deprecated, there's a long running worldbuilding general, you can hardly get genuine book discussion going. There's no culture here.
            So
Just leave. Honestly I've been sucked back into the churn of this place, I check these repetitive threads daily. The same 10 people chirping the same 20 phrases. There's been no growth among any of you for years. For literal years on God's earth you've all been the same. Don't you understand you're wasting your life? Move on. We all should have moved on. Is this how you envisioned your life going? A recurring character in drama threads dedicated to two and a half fledgling magazines read by less than 50 people? you are men. Grown ass men. People love you. Or they did once. At some point they dreamed greatness for you.
This is the 50th edition of this psychotic riptide of a thread and there hasn't been even a slight change in its motion. They're all the same. It's psychosis inducing.

            >I was critiquing the stories and rating them out of ten. In the following threads, the "crabs" would be regurgitating my negative criticisms ad naseum. They never actually engage with the material

You sound narcissistic and delusional. These threads don’t revolve around you and your opinions. There were multiple people in every release thread rating and reviewing the stories with a fair amount of detail, and it was clear that they had actually read them. If some particular aspect of any given story is glaringly bad, it stands to reason that multiple people will notice it and comment on it in the thread, or will build on other people’s earlier criticisms when giving their own feedback. Of course there are trolls who show up to shit on everything, but the majority of posters don’t fall into that category.

            >The poorly edited Hyperborea snippet went entirely unnoticed until I mentioned it a month later, and suddenly the next 4 &amp threads were dedicated to shitting on the editor for this oversight

False. I just looked in the archive, and it was barely mentioned in the following threads; the only person who brought it up again seemed to be you, and possibly one or two other posters referenced it in passing. As I said to you back then, after you kept bringing it up:
            >I just went back and reread the excerpt of Mixtape Hyperborea in &amp, and it was by no means in an unreadable state. There was ONE (1) instance where a short section was accidentally pasted in twice, and a few minor typos—that’s all. It was perfectly comprehensible. It’s likely that other readers noticed the error and just didn’t bother to comment on it, or had forgotten about it by the time they finished reading.

            >There is no value to be found in these threads or in this community.

Obviously there’s a lot of bullshit and drama in these threads, but sometimes the discussion is genuinely good.

            > Is this how you envisioned your life going? A recurring character in drama threads dedicated to two and a half fledgling magazines read by less than 50 people?

I agree with you that it’s easy to fall into the trap of taking this shit too seriously and letting it impact you negatively and occupy too much of your headspace. I’ve found myself getting disproportionately irritated and upset by things that people say in these threads at times, and that’s probably bad for my mental health, although there are other factors that play into that in my case. Anyway, if you feel like the discussion isn’t constructive, sometimes it’s worth it to take a break. I don’t think this means that these discussions are irredeemable or that everyone needs to jump ship, however.

            >These threads don’t revolve around you and your opinions
These threads actually revolve around the opinions of about 3-4 effort posters, which set the tones of the next however many dozen threads. It's actually a little remarkable how far forward a critique from 4 months ago can make it in time. All the thinking in these threads is done by 5 people
            >>>I just went back and reread the excerpt of Mixtape Hyperborea in &amp, and it was by no means in an unreadable state. There was ONE (1) instance where a short section was accidentally pasted in twice, and a few minor typos—that’s all. It was perfectly comprehensible. It's actually so fricking funny that you bring up your comment because i remember it. You're literally responding to the people I'm talking about. I brought that shit up one single time multiple threads beforehand. The people that drove you to defend the piece had nothing to do with me other than the fact that they were regurgitating a critique
            btw
The real point, if you're digging through archives, is that that issue(016?) was being absolutely skulldragged and SOMEHOW this incredibly obvious oversight had escaped the notice of the well meaning peanut gallery. The tenor of these threads is controlled by people who genuinely are not interfacing with the subjects. They are drawn by drama and perpetuate it forever. You cannot honestly defend the utility of this place
Consider the one constructive piece of these threads: Ari rejiggering RJC's book. That's pretty useful, right? Except that Ari/whoever has been recycling that exact same discourse, plus the contract drama, for months. any use RJC may have gotten from that discussion was rendered months ago, now it's just woven into the toxic tapestry of these threads. More flamebait for dorks. I hate, really, how this place turned out. But literature above all other artforms is a solitary endeavor.

            >Except that Ari/whoever has been recycling that exact same discourse, plus the contract drama, for months
There are definitely a handful of regular posters that pick up on any negative and reiterate it mindlessly. But so long as RJC (or whoever) keeps shilling LSP to the unknowing passerby, its track record bears repeating, and that requires some depth to substantiate it. It's definitely beating a dead horse, and RJC is beyond listening, but you've still got the passerby who knows nothing except what the quickest poster tells him. The point now is about RJC's attempts at selling his same mistakes to others.

(And as tasteless as it can end up being, if someone is going to make a mistake in the open and double down on it, then it's natural for pointing it out to catch on. That's just word of mouth.)

In a similar vein you can look at the accusations of the last year about how Unreal will doxx anyone who tries to start a IQfy project. It was a tired, done to death subject, and a point made based on a half truth, but to actually explain that to a random anon requires rehashing the whole thing. And if someone wasn't told otherwise, they might actually be deterred from doing something here.

The nature of these threads is weird since they're a combination of shills and trolls baiting each other. It's the idea that "any press is good press" that encourages shill engagement, and the mindless peanut gallery will shit on them endlessly so long as there's material to pull from, so they feed each other. The problem is that the facade of these threads doesn't match the content, so there'll always be a hapless poster checking it out for the first time.

I definitely agree that these threads would be better off not existing, and while there's occasional good discussion it's incidental and not enough to actually redeem the rest. (I.e., the nominal thread subject is fine, but the threads themselves aren't.) Even these few posts are the most effortful in the thread so far, yet they're only a meta-analysis of the thread itself. Considering the threads are also mostly dead until someone says something moronic, they're liable to be on the way out now anyway (especially considering you can see them get deleted when enough reports are made).

So these threads are made by Atlas right? At least the first one and the one with the new OP, maybe more. It's a little passé to throw Atlas under the bus, but the OP image style looks the same as the video thumbnails she made for Unreal, and the posts defending these threads that you replied to have a 99% chance of being her. That new OP also has details that a plain old spammer wouldn't care about.
            I'd list her motivations as
10% actual interest in the subject
10% desire to dump on Lamp and Ryan et al
80% suckering Ari into unknowingly talking to her
and considering he explicitly stated he's sticking around just to prove a point then it's obviously been working. No argument about the uselessness of these threads is going to change that last point if it's really Atlas making these threads, but I'm thinking that pointing it out might change the course.

Otherwise the options are a dramagay or one of the affiliated writers, but the former don't seem like they'd put in the effort for a new OP and the latter probably want the subject to die. I'm not sure what to make of the constant &amp threads before though.

I’m sorry and i’ll tell you so you won’t be mad I’m not the spammer who keeps reposting the exact same threads again and I don’t know who it is but yes I made the first of these threads back in Nov and also posted not this current thread but the very 1st one that used the new OP pic I made because I figured that at least maybe the discussion would be better and less repetitive and awful if I could preempt the inevitable copypaste repost of the old one by making a new and improved thread with a fresh OP pic and better questions and i liked designing the new op it gave me something to focus on and it distracted me and helped me calm down and not feel rlly upset and out of control for a bit but those were the only IQfy a history threads that I made I didn’t make the other copypaste ones that showed up in between and the only &amp threads I made were the initial ones that started the discussions about the best of in summer 2022 because Ryan asked me to drum up submissions and it wasnt to trick Ari because at the time I had no idea he had any involvement in &amp beyond casually sending in work as any other submitter would do and I didn’t know he was going to be so active in the threads and suggest the best of or anything like that I didn’t plan it to be like that I never planned to trick him it just spiralled?? and the only other &amp threads I made were in summer 2023 when I made the new release threads for issues 016 017 & 018 because Ryan asked me to do that and also a couple of fresh submission threads that Ryan asked me to make over the summer when I was helping him edit &amp and we actually needed to get new submissions? But I wasn’t the one who kept putting up pointless copypaste fake ones all the time and also I didn’t make the first IQfy a history thread with bad intentions I did actually think the topic was interesting and it wasnt to dump on Ryan because he already makes himself look bad enough on his own? I did mostly make the first IQfy a history thread for Ari but not to cause drama or trick him only to help him and do something nice because I know he has a special interest in old IQfy projects and I thought he would probably really like to have a thread all about them since he said he was trying to make the mega and i wanted the thread to help find other anons who might have the missing content he needed for his mega and who could answer his questions about IQfy project history and I thought maybe that would make him happy because I felt really bad about making him sad before but I never used that thread to trick himinto talking to me unknowingly or did anything bad the only direct communication we had was in that thread I shared some files to help him with making the mega that’s all and i know you are probably Ari so Im telling th truth about everything because I said I would never lie to you ever again so I have to always tell the truth? please don’t be mad and hate me even more I’m so sorry

The speaker apologizes and clarifies they are not responsible for spamming repetitive threads. They admit to creating the first thread in November and the initial thread with a new picture, aiming for a better discussion. The speaker denies making subsequent copy-paste threads and only created specific threads as requested by Ryan, without intending to deceive Ari. They mention their involvement was to improve content and assist with submissions, not to create drama or trickery. The speaker expresses regret for any upset caused and seeks understanding, emphasizing their intent to be truthful and helpful, particularly towards Ari.

You know, because we anons were thirsty as hell for more flailing attempts at literature from people only tangentially connected to IQfy.

Jason, CotC got discussed because people were genuinely curious why someone would spam ads for such awful writing. L'Academie got discussed because Waldun had been presenting himself as a legitimate authority on good writing for years and people were eager to expose his pretentiousness. The Shitkickers didn't get discussed because you made it apparent from the get-go that you saw IQfy as nothing more than a springboard for your own success, not even aware that your 'idols' were objects of mockery here. I don't see you discussing Cotc or Eggplant, just expressing frustration that you can't get anyone's attention.

The colophon in Tooky's book is a lot more reserved than RJC's, and doesn't indicate that he gave copyright up in the process (at most he would have given his manuscript over to Ryan pre-release). I'd guess that Tooky didn't sign away any profits (probably uploaded it himself) and that Ryan is going to be more careful for a bit after getting called out on how dubious or outright false things with RJC were; he's gotta build up goodwill again if he wants to make profit, however he plans on doing the latter.

it's regardless what small print has been changed. the fact remains that this joke of a 'publisher' does zero marketing and so anything 'published' through it is fated to die on the vine. not that Tootsy's dry asswind is worth reading to begin with.
and I honestly don't give a single shit what you think I'm a part of, because this is entire board a swamp.

Since this is a IQfy renaissance thread but I don't see any constructive discussion around the literature itself, I'll kickstart: what do we think of Lamp Standard's Improvidence written by David Herod?

I drove my 1993 Plymouth Voyager 5 speed minivan to the liquor store in -29c weather. The tranmission oil was nearly frozen and switching gears was like churning butter. Cannot believe that fricking van is so ridiculously reliable and just doesn't die. The head gasket has been blown for 2+ years and I haven't even changed the oil in at least the same amount of time. Just keep adding oil and coolant and it always starts and gets me around town.

That's AFTER I was living in Big White for a year, driving up and down that mountain and beating the shit out of my ride. The only maintenance I've done on the van is to do the brake pads, which were only $10 from RockAuto. Fricking amazing. These Chrysler minivans were peak engineering. Designed to run forever.

You've never lived urban and been able to, in the warm summer, pack a backpack with snacks, football, and a 6-pack, gone to the not-too-busy beach, and just hung out with some women and your bros for a few hours? Then after the beers are gone and the sun sets, head to the next location and just lived spontaneously in the moment? Bikes are a ton of fun because of the culture of urban living.

Once you leave the city, bike culture barely exists because ain't nobody going to have fun riding your bike on a dirty, uneven shoulder when 18-wheelers driven by dudes with 4 hours of sleep in the last 3 days are whizzing by at 100 kph.

More lies. In chapter IV the protagonist goes undercover in Amoralism, taking on the name Adam (a deft nod to his first-and-pure man-of-God presence in the Babylon-esque land), and during chapter V David Herod suffered a blow to the head, after which the remaining chapters are Walking Dead fan fiction. Adam and Rick kiss, they adopt a zombie baby, re-invent cake, and then Adam is finally promoted to the rank of President of the United States, as which his first act is to re-legalize gay marriage.

Podcast that Zulu makes and Frank keeps having taken down because the first episode is an hour-long investigation into Frank Sr.’s dealings with Roger Stober or something. Apparently Frank’s dad just stole all his wealth from the city of Chicago while serving on the Water Reclamation board. He didn’t even launder it or try to forge paperwork. He literally transferred money directly from public accounts into his personal checking account.

Frank’s dad literally damned an entire generation (including his own son) to a life of severe brain damage by stealing the money that was meant to replace the lead water pipes in his home district. Not skimming mind you. Funds were earmarked by the tax payers of Chicago to improve their city and enrich their home city, and Frank Gardner Sr. directed those funds into his private bank account. Now his idiot leadbrained son is using the money to sit on his greasy ass and advertise his complete nonstarter of a writing career.

Imagine your daughter had been made moronic so that someone like Frank Gardner Sr could lavish his own offspring with experiences and resources that he is unable or unwilling to actually capitalize on. Foreign trips, top-notch education, the leisure time to explore their interests and develop themselves to the fullest, these are all things that hundreds of thousands of lives were irreparably destroyed so that Frank Gardner could flush them down the toilet in favor of talking to himself through IQfy about how cool he is.

His influence seems to have been largely superficial. Unlike Ogden who has similar level of "acclaim", nobody actually reads Zulu's books. He has no cultural footprint on here. Hell, Behead All Satans which is years older and written by a guy who is decidedly less prolific, is much better known and widely regarded.

So, if nobody reads Zulu’s work, it’s because he is a loser and a bad writer, but if nobody reads your books it’s because IQfy is populated by bitter seething crabs who just hate new writers for no reason?

That doesn’t really answer my question, does it? Why are Zulu’s failures his own fault, but yours are always someone else’s?
