Affirmative action

Is it fair compensation to black and native americans for centuries of brutal subjugation, or is it just a cheap ploy that just perpetuates racism as it judges by the color of the skin? Is it fair that Asian Americans are left out? Are legacy admissions worse?

It simply shouldn’t be a thing because it negatively affects me.

I’ve literally been passed over for scholarships compared to a minority friend of mine who had worse grades and test scores.

Admissions are based on a ton of other factors and criteria too. Has been for literal decades at this point.

It wasn’t admissions, it was for scholarships and the school explicitly said in multiple places regarding its scholarships that they (1) base awards solely on grades and test scores and (2) give priority to earlier applicants. I had a perfect GPA and a higher test score and applied months before my friend and I literally got nothing and he got over 1/3 of his (very expensive) tuition covered. Affirmative action and favoring minorities completely screwed me over. There’s no way you can cut this for it not to be unjust.

Should be applied on the basis of class, not race. The poor should be helped, the rich don't need it.

Nah, if you want to uplift a group you should improve their educational development not improving their educational outcome. A dumb Black person with a degree in engineering is still a dumb Black person who is gonna be a shit engineer, but if you start at the ground to develop education in black majority areas at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels you’ll see not only increased college enrollment but graduation and said individuals rising to high positions instead if being a diversity hire who never rises above the lowest positions.

This, if you’re going to do it, do it at the ground level. Also, work with parents to improve their involvement in their kid’s education. Affirmative action is a big reason why collegiate standards are in the toilet (that and the institutional emphasis on just taking as much money from idiots as possible). There are kids being shuffled into universities who literally can’t write a basic essay. My college professors all noted this decline in standards.

Legacy admissions are justifiable because of the heritability of intelligence. It's a rational choice for universities.

Affirmative action isn't justifiable for the same reason. Poor, dumb and ugly people are poor, dumb and ugly mostly due to their genes, and not because of past grievances.

Malaysia doesn't? The Indians there are poor and at the bottom of society, and get discriminated against by the Malays? Oh you mean the Chinese? They suffer from it too but don't complain, the Malay majority is very clear that they get benefits simply by virtue of being the majority.

Malaysia were on the bottom of society with the Chinese up top and Indians sonewgay. Now Malaysia actually a skilled workforce and Malays in positions of power and actually having access to wealth.

            >Oh you mean the Chinese? They suffer from it too but don't complain

Look at how you didn't mention the Indians in contemporary times, they've been punched down to being an underclass and are absolutely discriminated against for no good reason.

I know Malaysian Indians, they fricking hate the racism against them there.

The decline occurred due to high school and primary school education getting gutted alongside massive gaps between post university educational institutions. AA dismt contribute to the decline because the decline was already well under way.

It does contribute because these people would not get into college without affirmative action because their grades and test scores suck. Their lack of abilities are completely ignored and they’re allowed in, and then you get shit like “we need to decolonize universities” because it’s too hard for them

AA admissions are a tiny numbers of admissions nor is merely sending a letter a guarantee the student actually enrolls.

You’re pulling that “tiny numbers” thing out of your ass. It’s supposed to be based on a “wholistic analysis” of the student application where race is “one factor.” They’re not allowed to say it was based on race and I’m sure there aren’t numbers saying X students were admitted from affirmative action. But everyone knows your objective factors can be shit if your black or brown.

The education system is so fractured that nothing gets done and school board shifts make any real policy direction never last long.

      >and said individuals rising to high positions
They won't if companies don't do so or juat send said minority to some dead end branch

(many do this lol). Look at East Asians and their absence in key positions, higher management and front facing positions.
