Anything like a UBI would instantly be offset by inflation.

        Anonymous

        Why?

UBI makes zero sense in the real world

its one thing for a social security net to elevate subsets of a society to normalize overall welfare

its another thing entirely to just say 'everyone gets X dollars' because youre living in a fricking dreamworld if you dont think that will also result in an insane inflationary spike to account for the extra money everyone now has.

not to mention the utter economic collapse that will occur when the threat of dire poverty is no longer a motivating factor for all the people doing jobs that they do not want to do.

jesus christ anyone who utters UBI should be gulag'd for 20 years. i feel dirty just typing it

        >its one thing for a social security net to elevate subsets of a society to normalize overall welfare
        >its another thing entirely to just say 'everyone gets X dollars' because youre living in a fricking dreamworld if you dont think that will also result in an insane inflationary spike to account for the extra money everyone now has.
The people receiving UBI who don't fall into the "subsets" you mentioned won't be seeing an increase in income since they're the ones who'll pay for UBI through increased taxes. Even if they did it would end up in an account, not being spent at a shop.

        >Inflation! Laziness!

Yeah those same old boogeymen every time someone suggests any sort of improvements to help the regular people not work twice as hard for twice as long, get paid half as much, and make the upper 0.1% slightly richer.

        >Inflation
UBI would actually cost less to implement than the massive bureaucracy there is now to spend a lot of time finding ways to deny more and more people access to the social safety net even for a piddly amount of money. Its just like how universal single payer health care makes more sense than the clusterfrick we have in the US for many many reasons. Inflation is unlikely to result from this because one its a tiny amount of money in comparison to the many corporate handouts we give and atop that, people would use it to pay down their debts first and then likely invest it into the economy.
        >Lazy!
Even 2000/month, 24K a year is basically near poverty level wages in much of the country and is completely untenable in many areas. People won't stop working and $2000 wouldn't take care of everyone's bills or living expenses even if it was a help. The real issue isn't about anything economic its about which people are considered "deserving" in the small minded assessment and which are "lazy/parasites" .

Even UBI wouldnt' fix all of our problems and there's a lot that needs to be dealt with on a much larger scale overhauling the entire way that labor is extracted and controlled for the benefit of those at the top.

Just gonna point this out there but that democrat talking point has been proven wrong several times throughout the last 20 years. Your pundits also said inflation was transitory too. Just maybe can you admit you picked the team of financial illiteracy? Your voterbloc caused all of pur current problems and should sit down and shut up while leaving this to people with more economic sense.

          >Even 2000/month, 24K a year is basically near poverty level wages
you underestimate the cheap rent of crime ridden neighborhoods.
If you had the option to live and have infinite free time, an internet connection, and you don't need to work, it's basically a dreamland. Add on top of that that you can sell weed for to the kids for a good buck too (funny coincidence, in toronto I just walked by a middle school kid smoking weed on the sidewalk... but I live in a posh lakeshore where houses are $2 million, and weed is technically legal in your home, so the kid is probably doing fine), and if you go to jail, you are rewarded with better food since you spent it all on whatever you were addicted to.
Same thing happened in sweden, basically sweden made a bill where parents basically make enough money that you can live off it (this was before migrants because sweds were having lower birthrates), and the migrants took advantage of that and just became criminals and now Sweden's sexual harassment incidents grew and all the growth came from migrants.

Everything you said is wrong. UBI would just cause inflation. If people have the money to buy things without working - you will create demand shocks. Biden's stimulus policy, for example, is proof of this. What would cost less, bureaucratically speaking, would be privatizing social security, medicare and medicaid. Also, your ideas are incredibly fricking stupid. By making those types of benefits tied to government; you're especially allowing the government to bribe people for votes. That's just going to lead to even more dangerous demagoguery. When people look towards the government to solve their problems they become slaves to it.

doesn't work like that, and future ubi programs would grow with inflation rate. in your land of fantasy and make believe we would end up having inflation like argentina and the currency becomes worthless. ubi is better for an economy because more money ends up cycled through the system back into the governments hand via taxes. government paying themselves to keep the economy moving.
