All this gay does is debate yourube comments made by middleschool kids.

States rights also refer to the state's right to secede, so of course the civil war was over state's right because the north invaded them over their secession.

But weren't the first shots fired by the south when they attacked american soil?

You've just reworded what the guy who replied to you said. The Lost Cause is a dead movement, only a small handful of boomer reenactors and terminally online losers subscribe to it. It has been utterly defeated as a movement and now the new trend is that of wholesale, uncritical praise for Lincoln and Grant, turning them into mild, humble, liberal folk heroes.

          >uncritical
He criticizes the frick out of Northerners for hypocrisy and human rights abuses though

          What video are you citing?

I'm not citing any video; I'm just referring to the modern historiographical trend that he ignores so he can dunk on one that was dominant a hundred years ago.

Why should he go after Lincoln and Grant more? Lost Causers are still a powerful force in American politics complicit in restricting the civil rights of tens of millions of people.

Well the courts have ruled there is no right to succeed and it is far from clear the drafters ever intended there to be. Madison himself suggested there was not.

It was about state right which included slavery. The slippery slope is real so by the principle of the thing they couldn't give an inch.

It was about which method would be most effective at destroying America. The north wanted to try mass immigration and the replacement of real culture with consumer culture, and the south wanted to trying pretending it was another nation altogether while clinging to a dying social order. Both movements could only ever have ended up turning America into Mexico, even if the northern route did so at a slightly more relaxed pace.

What is controversial about my post? I merely stated what everyone knows happened and the clear goals of both sides. Maybe the northern goals were a bit more implicit, but we can clearly see they succeeded all the same.

The South was merely attempting to protect its minority rights against intolerable Black Republican majority rule.1860 was 'now or never' for the Southern States. The Jacksonian perversion of mass democracy and subsequent Germano-Irish immigration killed the fundamental framework of the American idea. The Republic should have been governed by a Whiggish class of conservative aristocrats of Colonial-Revolutionary origin who would provide benevolent policies for the inferior hordes of Black slaves and poor whites. Secession was revolution and undesirable for many, but naturally transformed into a necessary evil, considering just how far Lincoln and his cohorts were willing to go to maintain the wealthiest per capita States within the taxation and revenue system of the Federal Union. Southern money was not fulfilling its true destiny in building-up Southern cities, manufactories, banks, commerce, infrastructure, universities, etc.

The Southern plantation system was thriving in the 1850s, to the point that some politicians desired to reinstate the Atlantic slave-trade in the form of 'apprenticeships', as well as annex Cuba. An independent South would necessarily be regarded as an economic superpower centered-upon the deity of Cotton.

It was a crusade by free men for the fundamental right to self-government enshrined within Magna Carta, something the so-called 'Humanitarians' of the North could scarce fathom, for they had betrayed their English heritage in favor of a great and senseless evil.

Why is the American Civil War so dividing?

Korea does it right. Civil War is a sad thing and it is brothers fighting.

Why is it so dividing here? One dude takes a contrarian position for attention mostly

      >Why is the American Civil War so dividing?
The cultures of both the north and the south were fundamentally divided before the revolutionary war. And the botching of reconstruction has ingrained that divide into both cultures.

Despite similar "brother fighting brother" rhetoric, the north and south were not really brothers. They had different populations and different social systems. They hadn't even had positive feelings for each other for decades before.

That's how it was here for about 150 years, so I figure the Koreans have about 70 years to go before they start loathing each other for no reason

There is a significant difference between hating the south and disagreeing with your ahistorical narrative.

      >Lost Causers are still a powerful force in American politics complicit in restricting the civil rights of tens of millions of people
They're not, the United States is a far-left, revolutionary regime that is destroying southern culture consciously as we speak, rendering your theory insane.

The United States is none of those things. You are a crazy person.

You've just reworded what the guy who replied to you said. The Lost Cause is a dead movement, only a small handful of boomer reenactors and terminally online losers subscribe to it. That's just not true. The lost cause mythos is alive. Consider the absolute shitshow that happened when a couple of statues were to be taken down.
