Well the courts have ruled there is no right to succeed and it is far from clear the drafters ever intended there to be. Madison himself suggested there was not.

It was about state right which included slavery. The slippery slope is real so by the principle of the thing they couldn't give an inch.
It was about which method would be most effective at destroying America. The north wanted to try mass immigration and the replacement of real culture with consumer culture, and the south wanted to trying pretending it was another nation altogether while clinging to a dying social order. Both movements could only ever have ended up turning America into Mexico, even if the northern route did so at a slightly more relaxed pace.

The cultures of both the north and the south were fundamentally divided before the revolutionary war. And the botching of reconstruction has ingrained that divide into both cultures.
Despite similar "brother fighting brother" rhetoric, the north and south were not really brothers. They had different populations and different social systems. They hadn't even had positive feelings for each other for decades before.
That's how it was here for about 150 years, so I figure the Koreans have about 70 years to go before they start loathing each other for no reason
