I did. antifa and troony flags everywhere. trannies and gays in every corner. I only came to listen to a performance of a friend but left immediately after it was done. A few years prior at the same event there was none of that. it really boils down to an obsession with queerness along with commie/socialism moronation. Another friend said he was coaxed into a polyamory workshop and someone wanted him to take estrogen pills. I don't want anything to do with these people.

I'm glad to inform you that someone was me.

All went out of business during covid.

Can confirm that experience. There's no space for hacking in those hackerspaces.

I'm Chad Stevens that writes code, and I have too much stuff to do to give a single shit about that kind of people.

      What's the point? Why?

When they were a thing, it was cheaper than buying your own CNC mill to prototype a thing or two. Having a hackerspace around me was the only reason I bothered with a custom high precision drive for my telescope mount; buying one would have costed me about 10 grand otherwise.

A hacker space is a CNC mill?

          Anonymous

I don't know what type of hacker spaces you have around but the one I used to attend had a good CNC mill, a laser engraver/cutter, and a lathe (which I actually bought for cheap when they closed).

            Anonymous

What fricking hacker space needs a lazer engraver anyways? Thats engineering kid shit

            Anonymous

Yeah? That's a maker space in the original sense. We had an artist who used to make literal steel sculptures on that mill.

idk, that confused me as well. probably to get people to learn about it and try to normalize sexual degeneracy. whyever this shit has a place in hackerspaces... don't ask me.

I was there few times and it was really cool. Unfortunately I lost contact with the group I would go with and I would feel out of place going alone.

They dont allow cis white men.

they're afflicted by the same low-effort political sealioning queer homosexualry as open source software is inundated with. people who don't actually do anything related to the subject-matter, but act like they do, and turn the whole thing into a political game. hacker types and open source software types are really vulnerable to the "i just want to have a discussion about this to find the best way to do it. you're not going to deny me the ability to even just TALK about this, right??" thing. this is how the activists get in. their target demographic is typically a little pro-freedom, anti-censorship, so it seems right to allow discussion and avoid censorship, but this just snowballs as they jam a wedge in to your project or hackerspace further and further until it's suddenly a communist queer meeting place and your 3d printers are loud and annoying and disrupting the meetings and therefore have got to go.
i even say this as a gay dude: if you let the queer politics people in to the nerdcaves, they'll eat you alive like a burrowing parasite and live in your skin while you rot.

because they're full of trannies and or commies

None to speak of. We do have some conferences every now and then from people trying to set up programmer communities, but when I went to one the speakers were teenagers who fricking sucked at explaining their topics and most people were just there for the food

I'm planning to move to a new city anyways so hopefully the situation will be better

I went and there was a troony that kept trying to give me estrogen pills even after I politely declined several times.
There was a cool talk that I listened to but then I kind of left because it was a weird vibe in the place I didn't like and the estrogen pill dude really soured the whole thing for me

Hacker culture is dead, man. Like dancing on the rotten corpse kind of dead. I've contemplated going to my local CCC Erfa group quite often, but besides the fact, that I prefer to be alone, I just imagine it to be awful. I see no reason why the people in the Erfa group should be any less of politically obsessed homosexuals than the people at chaos congress. I don't mind if everyone had their own little opinion, but at this point CCC isn't about computers anymore. Wau Holland would be spinning in his grave if he saw what his little community became.

I know you're trolling, but I'll take the bait. That's the very wrong attitude. How about your hackerspace is actually about computers, programming, hacking, electronics, and stuff and not some politically obsessed circlejerk? Idgaf about your politics, I just want to have fun using computers.

hacker spaces have largely devolved into three categories, all interdependent and overlapping

    1. trannies talking about how being a freak makes you a cyborg

    2. activists telling everyone that their opinions make them nazis

    3. neophiles showing off the latest corporate gadget they bought

The one based part about it was it being in the same building as a private property that acted as an open orgy locale for swinger's with really tight vetting.
The one guy that dragged me to that hackerplace was the only guy who was "real" but also came with a lot of red flags, there was zero collaboration overall, and there wasn't a place for me like you are saying.
