Seeing these books makes me sad. It would feel so wrong reading these with my kids while knowing that today's world is nothing like these books anymore. I can't give my kids the illusion of a wholesome and functioning society. I need to prepare them for the horrors awaiting them outside.

You might be surprised but the world was never like in a kids book. Except maybe that people were always pigs I guess
Hansel and Gretal or Little Red Ridinghood seem somewhat accurate.
I don't recommend that book. Alternatively, I recommend Captain Slaughterboard Drops Anchor.
it's to Thomas the Tank Engine what Digimon is to Pokemon, which is to say it's the much maligned yet totally actual original real deal.
Digimon is the better show. Pokémon is the better game.
