That's why you buy the high end desktop and a low end laptop and forward a remote session from the desktop when you want to be outside.

You don't understand what I'm saying at all. I don't want to sit in my room playing video games and jerking off to AI porn like I would if i had some crazy RTX4090/4K OLED setup. It's not healthy, but I still want it. With a laptop, I can't really do any of those things, and it's portable so I can go to a cafe or something and be in the real world.

If you thought the only uses for a HEDT are porn and video games you have bigger problems than money or technology.

Then define HEDT if you want to split hairs.

            >rattling off random product names and capacities
Parts that were high end when new are still high end now, just made obsolete by newer high end parts. Very relevant if you opt for used parts or new old stock to save a bit.

If you already know that you want to go the laptop route then what is the dilemma?

the fact that I still want it and I don't know if I'm just kidding myself

Anon, I just wanted you to know that your self-awareness is good. What allowed me to escape the bedroom was:
            1. Thinking about how I can always enjoy a good computer setup in retirement age and/or when im old at the same level as I can now in my youth
            2. I realized, I actually wasnt about that loner life. I actually did enjoy talking to people out there. I actually did want to do normie stuff like going to bars, skiing and being goofy with girls.
            3. My car
            4. My parents were happier with me going out
            5. I could go home and go straight to bed to sleep instead of doomscrolling till 4am and waking up with regret

If you can control yourself, buy a good setup if you want. But again you have to limit yourself with incentives.

how is the transition between windows and macos

        >how is the transition between windows and macos
Shit fricking sucks sometimes but some things could be adjusted so it's alright. Here are a few of my pet peeves on macos:

        >Shortcuts
For example the typical undo command of winblows is Ctrl+Z and mac is Cmd+Z so I had to use modifier keys to swap the globe key and cmd for ergonomics/familiarity sake.

        >Forced animations for displaying windows on mac
Shit can't be disabled and you MUST have transition animations when min/max windows because Black person homosexual Tim Cook doesn't allow you to have options to disable it in settings. The animation is so garbage and laggy even on my most high-end MacBook Pro M3 Pro chip. Sataniagays are welcome to screenshot this L of mine.

        >Finder file manager
While there are some things that I appreciate finder can do that shitty winblows can't (e.g. the file explorer never returns any shit you're looking for), I don't like how I can't use trackpad to return to any level of the enclosing folder and I had to use shortcut keys to go back one level of the directory I'm in. It's weird for Apple to claim they have better GUIs but here I am wondering if I should go back to using a fricking terminal CLI.

Other than those listed points it has been a fantastic productive machine for me to do my personal development work. I used to think that if I don't have more than 1 monitor I'm le finished but it turns out to be fine when I got my macbook in public spaces with no external monitors.

The windows min/max animation in MacOS is so fricking shitty that not even their ProMotion screen can save any part of it... The windows animation on winblows 11 however is much smoother than that of macOS, and my macOS has better chip than my winblows shit box so the animated bloat is so unjustified on a higher-end machine.

            >Shit can't be disabled and you MUST have transition animations
            Use Yabai

NTA, but do you happen to use a tiling manager? The only thing stopping me from macos at the moment is a respectable non-hacky tiling manager. Optimally something exactly like i3.

I haven't try out any tiling manager on my iToy yet. I will try out yabai and let you IQfyuys know

I moved from i3 to macos with Yabai and its pretty decent. I've managed to replicate all of my old keybinds and it works pretty well. Only nitpick is sometimes my workspaces get mixed up when I connect my monitors. I have 1-5 on the first and 6-10 on the second and sometimes it will change itself back to 1-9 and then just 10 which is really frustrating. If you aren't using external monitors I don't think you would have any issues with it.
