The reality is a lower cut does not benefit the actual developers or purchasers. The executives get bigger bonuses, the shareholders get bigger dividend checks, and everyone else gets nothing

so no different from the google play store then. yet at the same time, most people would much rather buy an app on google play say over the Amazon app store or samsung app store. i'd say gaymers are actually worse since most PC gaymers nowadays are basically "won't buy if it's not on steam". the fact that valve holds thousands of dollars worth of your games and more importantly thousands of hours of game saves makes it so gaymers are mentally invested into steam as a service and valve as a company. these games and saves are equivalent to first baby pics/vids for a normal person.

            Anonymous

            >and more importantly thousands of hours of game saves

Valve doesn't stop other companies distributing their games via alternate methods. Epic does by exclusivity contracts and Apple does by locking down hardware.
Plus they are actively trying to make Linux a better operating system for graphical applications.

In what universe does that happen? Literally every game published on both platforms is the same price. The publishers just eat the extra money just like they eat the extra money from not having to produce disks for consoles and selling for same price

            Anonymous

because valve requires it illiterate moron

It doesn't. You can find games with a cheaper base price (I.e not sale discounts) on EGS vs Steam, Steam don't try to stop it.
But the base price of games is based on expected value to the end user, not profit - if someone is pricing their game lower outside Steam that means they think the product has lower value to customers.

look up "price discrimination", then have a nice day moronic frick

      Anonymous

The fight for open platforms is one worth having, but timmy is a massive hypocrite for trying to claim that's what he's fighting for. This is the butthole trying to bring the console model to pc by locking games down to their launcher via paid exclusivity. That's the definition of a walled garden.
He's also defended consoles, which are all nothing but walled gardens that give the consumer zero freedom or control and also all take 30%, with nintendo being particularly egregious with their pricing for ancient hardware and practically nonexistent sales.
All timmy wants is to be at the top of the pack while doing everything he currently claims to hate, he's just using things like 30% to try and tear down his direct competition. The epic store is bleeding tons of money with his model and is only kept alive by fortnite, while being far less convenient and consumer friendly than steam with no lower prices or passed on savings to speak of, and we know he's a massive hypocrite as his lawsuits have even forced him to admit as much.

        Anonymous

        his suits are short-sighted
the tactics tim is suing everyone over are the same tactics he wants to use once a foothold is gained
if any of his suits go through, all those companies he pissed off would be more than happy to use his precedent to bury epic in legal settlements
