Are Nintendo switches still a decent purchase? Specifically the lites since I've always preferred the handhelds

Why are they still essentially all the same price or even more expensive than release?

Breath of the Wild is just that good of a game, I suppose.

There's not many games on switch anymore, so no. 3ds and ds had much better game library. For example phoenix Wright and Layton.
Switch has Mario, Zelda and that's pretty much it? Both very lackluster compared to pc offerings.

Is there anything else good on switch? At least Google can't find a single good game for it. As said there's much better offering on pc already than Mario and Zelda on switch.

If you're focused on handheld then I'd recommend the lite as the full switch is too big to hold comfortably for long.

Time OLED has a better dock that makes it easier to set down almost anywhere though

I don't have a Lite, but I've gone thru 5 brand-new joycons, all of them eventually got drift.
No way am I recommending a Lite with non-detachable joycons that are bound to get drift eventually. Just get a regular Switch if you want one.
Nowadays I play mine with an 8bitdo though, other than replacing the runners with $1 SNES replacements, they're still great after many years

Really that's what I am on doing lmao. Or getting some sort of flash cart.

Whats the max I should be paying for them anyways if I go used? Half retail price?

Also why TF are 3ds so expensive now. Nearing switch prices. When I got my n3ds years ago it I got it used for a fraction of what they're selling for now

With easy software mods and directly pirating games on the system people realized they're a great handheld platform. If you want one get a 2ds

someone finally figured out how to make flash carts for switch recently. they're called mig switches, you can buy them pretty cheap if you google it.
probably the most bullish reason to get a switch nowadays.

gonna get patched as soon as Nintendo gets their hands on one, and then sued out of business.

gonna get patched as soon as Nintendo gets their hands on one, and then sued out of business.

It doesn't even need to be patched it's already fricked out of the gate. Switch carts have unique certificates assigned to them that the cart needs in order to use the game. Yes that means each individual cart can be tracked by Nintendo. If you are using a dump by someone else you somehow got off the internet and they see you used it at the same time as someone else that's an automatic ban. I'm sure it's the same if your certificate doesn't actually match your game.

Speaking of I have a friend who is actually moronic enough to have bought one of these even after I explained all of this repeatedly. He has a neighbor who has a large collection of switch carts and his plan is to dump them. The store selling it freaked out after the whole Yuzu thing and stopped taking any new orders but assured him it's still going to ship.

i use that dumbass retro games service on switch but i think most people will just be able to play all the switch games with a flash cart if they just set it on airplane mode forever. you underestimate the benefit of just downloading whatever games you want for free on a internet disabled switch

no game updates and no dlcs. but it works.

            Anonymous

The one thing I don't understand about how it works is if you need a certificate from the specific cart you are trying to play or if you could just patch one in from any random cart.

            Anonymous

It just copies a cart entirely, there's no patching. Your switch thinks it's the original cart you copied that is in the slot.

Incorrect, but it requires chipping them and the switch lite is a royal pain since you have to solder to some really fricking tiny SMD pins

I would love buy a Nintendo Switch, is the most minimal, have physical game copies being sold, is cheapest console at the market and have a very interesting game library. But the price of the games would make me jailbreak it, $60 for games from 6/7 years ago is terrible.

steam deck OLED is the only console I'd buy. switch is fine but if I want something truly portable then I already have it... my phone.

    No.
    >mod chipped from China (like new condition)
Sure! If you want to play Switch games then the Switch is your best option. It can do some emulation, up to PS1/N64 probably. If you want to emulate more, AND play some Switch games, then a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is your best option. Way better screen, controls, more consoles it can emulate, is android so it has access to android apps, etc etc.

I regret owning a Lite and it was given to me free from a friend. The screen is too small for games that are designed for multiplatforms so reading text is annoying as shit to see in some titles. Then theres the fact how all the games are overpriced to hell and you have to pay for online. If I had ~$200 I'd just buy one of those chink android emulator handhelds since they're getting good enough to run up to PS2 now.

    >Why are they still essentially all the same price or even more expensive than release?
Because nintendo is an absolute israelite who knows they can get away with it despite how ancient the hardware is. For the average consumer the switch is the only thing they know exists.

i threw a picofly in my girlfriend's so she could get her gay farming games for free and she has barely used it. still a pretty fun project and the hardest soldering job i'd done up to that point. don't get one though, can't even hook it up to a tv.

There is a Switch 2 coming out at some point and they want to dump as much inventory as they can at full price before they're forced to discount it.

PC gaming is dead now that their two worthwhile exclusive genres, civ spreadsheet stimulators and arcade shooters have been poached by the switch

        Anonymous

        Which civ spreadsheet simulator?
I think the opposite. All good games have moved from 3ds and ds to pc or phones and nothing left for switch. Just ports of some pc games and best ones like factorio not even ported.

          Anonymous

Oh nvm. Factorio one of those that is ported. Dsp then. For civ like eu4 and ck3 are only good one currently and neither on switch.

I ended up giving my Switch away after playing BOTW. Having a console that doesn't discount its 5+ year-old games is fricking crazy. I also feel like I ran out of games I would like pretty soon after I got it. BOTW was the only one I was REALLY looking forward to play. Ended up getting a steam deck instead.
It never made sense to use my switch. If I wanted to pull it out and have a quick game for 10-15 I'd rather just pull out my phone and play some shitty mobile game to pass the time. If im gonna sit down for a long train ride for 30-60min I rather pull out my steam deck.

    Depends
If your homebrew it I don’t suggest it it’s a pain in the ass to homebrew

But if your just playing the newest Mario game then it’s ok if you don’t have any siblings or friends

If you have siblings get a normal switch
