Miyazaki is obsessed with Magic: The Gathering and a lot of Dark Souls shit is ripped from that. People like to bring up Berserk ad nauseum but plenty of superficial aspects were ripped from that too. >depth and challenge
Playing a game and reading a book are entirely different experiences. The topic of the thread indicates your NPC status so I feel this needs to be said to you.
>bro bro bro you don’t understand this game where you have to spam the barrel roll (bing bing wahoo) dodge button unrelentingly for five minutes until you get one attack in and then spam the barrel roll (bing bing wahoo) doge button again is so complex and challenging
>my favourite passtime was music
Quite a discrepancy comparing music with shit like vidya. Music and lit go hand in hand. Two mediums almost as old as humanity itself. They're brothers, I say, brothers.
Whenever someone asks this, some dumbass reccomend Book of the new sun or black company. Don't listen to them. They're morons. They're nothing like the atmosphere/general feel of dark souls. I haven't found an equivalent. Darksouls is largely wordless in it's storytelling. And so I think by nature a book in similar vein should have no singular protagonist we follow, or if we do, should have no large community to engage with. There should only be the occasional survivor or wanderer, because dark souls is post-apocolyptic. Unironically, the Road is probably closer to Dark Souls than any of the previously mentioned books. But it's not gothic or possess any of the mishmash of architectural styles present in the games. But that's fine because what you'd be searching for is general feel. Honestly, I'd love a book where it's just following Patches as he observes the lands. Maybe catches glimpse of the chosen undead now and then. Maybe someone who reads dystopians regularly can offer some suggestions.

Literally Blood meridian
Poetry, probably. I mean stuff like Byron's Childe Harold's pilgrimage, Milton's Paradise Lost.
Given your strange request I assume you haven't read that much in your life and will find the above two impossible.
just read above your reading level
you're not gonna understand everything, it's gonna be a hard read, you're gonna need references
but if you push trough you will get gud and up your reading level
>I think it's possible to replicate Dark Souls' uniqueness, immersiveness, depth and challenge in a book.
Of course it is - From Software didn't invent any of those things - moreover, From Software's games are but postmodern pastiche to its core.
I think what makes Dark Souls an interesting narrative experience is the player's ability to piece together information from obscure, conflicting sources, use context clues to unravel meaning, and engage directly in the narrative-building process. Most books, and especially novels, do not operate like this. They, quite obviously, tell the reader a story. Maybe something like House of Leaves comes closer?
You know book of the new sun reminded me a lot of dark souls

It's so cute when nerds hold up their anime, vidya or comics up and declare them to be better than "books", like OK kid sure lmao, you want a trophy?
sometimes you have to communicate to people through different mediums. Honestly before I got into greek philosophy my favourite passtime was music

The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe is a frequent name drop in Books like Dark Souls threads
Video games have rotted your brain.

Absolutely nothing similar.
You are telling me tik tok is not only for moronic dances and thirst traps?
Yeah anon, the graphics and controls in Moby Dick were very immersive. I mean, what the frick kind of question is this?
>I think it's possible to replicate Dark Souls' uniqueness, immersiveness, depth and challenge in a book.
Of course it is - From Software didn't invent any of those things - moreover, From Software's games are but postmodern pastiche to its core.
>postmodern pastiche to its core...
... which is lame for many reasons, included that the age of the critique of pastiche was like 60-70 years ago.

Maybe try Paradise Lost? It's pretty cool
