No. I don’t get how anyone can be sympathetic to the Byzantines after learning how responsible for their own downfall they were with their short-sightedness. It’s funny how we ended up inheriting their moronation.

Because anatolian turks are Greeks in denial, they make the same mistakes as their ancestors.

I'd simp for the Eastern Roman Empire only from Leo the First to Justin the First, and then from Michael the Eighth until the end of the Empire, the rest is plain shit, the Angelid Dynasty in particular is unsupportable and in fact justified the destruction of the Empire by how fricking moronic they were, not even iconoclasm beats them as empire destroyers

It is pretty hard to have a "non-moronic" government when you have so much external threats

moronation in politics had and still has nothing to do with outside pressure, it has everything to do with whether one can or cannot critically determine his or her position on the board and plan accordingly. Plenty of Eastern Roman Emperors were decent and others bad, but the Angelid were simply atrocious at this, outright tyrannical and odious to their own people and the very tombs of the dead, which they plundered and torched for gold to pay their ludicrous court ceremonies and foreign reparations

No, white civilization actually benefitted from getting rid of the larpers. Byzantines were notorious for funding civil wars on all their neighbors, from Italy, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and worse of all Russia. It’s rarely spoken about how the Byzantines feared the Rus after converting it to Orthodoxy for whatever strange reason and to feel better, they paid Muslim Turks to raid and attack the Rus killings millions of Christians to stunt their growth so they can never challenge them. If Russia became Catholic instead, they would have been a superpower by the 1600’s

The kievan rus wanted to strike itself as independent from greece and struck them multiple times. The catholics launched multiple crusades against eastern europeans, not to mention the importance of trade with the byzantines to the rus. A conversion to orthodoxy was the only feasible option

Stop being moronic Muslim extremist larpers and fix your dictatorship and you’ll be in the EU within a decade

Turkey was wienerblocked by the eu for 40 years before erdogan came to power you

The Rus invaded the Balkans at the behest of the Byzantines only, literally being paid by them every time, the Rus could have easily expelled the Greeks from their side of the black sea but chose not to to focus on what was suppose to be their common enemy, the Turks. The Byzantines were just moronic and made sure they had no allies ever. If the Byzantines didnt pay the Turks to attack the Rus for 400 years, they might have had a chance at repelling the Mongols or atleast exhausting their manpower and in return the Greeks wouldnt have had their Anatolian holdings razed by the Mongols and ensured central Europe was far more developed.

Right, so it’s just better to get rid of the middleman and subject Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Austria, and almost Italy to Muslim raids and rule. A rump buffer state would be better than their collapse.

        >ummm actually without the Ummayads all of Europe would be attacked by the Nafri’s!!
See how moronic you sound? No Byzantines doesnt mean Anatolia doesnt exist you mong, no Byzantines meddling and bringing their fellow Christians down for a thousand years means a stronger Balkan power to replace it without the decadent Roman system to corrupt it

That’s moronic for you to compare it to the Umayyads. They’re completely different things. The collapse of the Byzantine empire led to the rise of the Ottomans that put Christians under the direct occupation of Muslim Turks. What’s better: (1) a foreign power meddling in your politics or (2) being directly occupied by an even more foreign power that directly oppresses you? Think for one second.

    Used to be.
Then I actually read Byzantine history instead of just playing Paradox Games.
    They achieved a lot.
Their governmental system had deep flaws that doomed them in addition to moronic decisions by both the leadership and the civilian population.
An empire worth of both respect but not as much Reddit-tier obsession as it gets.
