Attacks on Latter-day Saints

>America's Islam
Is this really a fair title? Where does it come from and why has it stuck for so long? It feels like a gross mischaracterization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Of all American religious affiliations, they seemed to be mocked the most.
Joseph Smith was also a beautiful man.

anyone here see the drama series Under the Banner of Heaven? was really the most Mormon culture I've had experience with, seems pretty cool tbh I don't know why they get so shit on

    Explain this.
I don’t usually attack Mormons, but i absolutely will attack the church and its involvement in politics.

Wait, so being a good nonmormon gives you a decent afterlife, but being an exmormon gets you sent to hell. Why would anyone want to be a mormon in that case?

        Anonymous

The idea is that apostasy is the worst sin because you've been taught the full and true gospel by the church and rejected it instead of being happy that now you can enter the highest levels of heaven. Non-Christians and non-Mormon Christians aren't punished for this due to ignorance but they also aren't rewarded as much as Mormons who know all things. It's fascinating since Joseph got the idea from his utter hatred of Calvinism and the fact Calvinists told him his brother was in hell for not being baptized. It's also kinda gnostic since you need to have the full Mormon knowledge to enjoy the top luxuries of heaven.

Apostasy seems to be not as bad as "denying the Holy Ghost," which is the only thing that gets you into outer darkness permanently.

Side note: Mother in law is an ex-mormon. Telestial kingdom makes me giggle every time.

It gets worse. Being an evil nonmormon gives you a better afterlife than being an exmormon.

Also both religions have a prohibition on alcohol.

In fact Mormons take this further up a notch. Not only is alcohol forbidden, but gambling and tobacco. And even further every Mormon is not allowed to own or investment in any kind of company/stocks that deal with any of these products.

          Anonymous

I don't know specifically about tobacco, but Islam also forbids gambling, as well as doing business in anything that is deemed haram.

I think Mormons are far better at maintaining their members adherence to these articles. Their Mormon Church has like trillions of dollars invested and not a single cent of it is in companies dealing with these products. Whereas you will not find a single Muslim county that doesn't deal with these products.

      >Reformist religion that claims to restore the original message of Judaism and Christianity.
      Wrong, its the exact opposite
      >Claims to have received new revelation from an angel and a new scripture that corrects and overrides the Bible.
Wrong, bible is the headcanons of Paul and the four unknown gospel authors centuries after the time of Jesus, the book that you're referring to is the Injeel, which is God's words that have been revealed to Jesus himself, they're not even close.
      >Claims the Bible has been corrupted.
Wrong, Qur'an doesn't even acknowledge the headcanons of Paul, it refers to people who make stuff up and say this is from God, in other words homosexual lunatics like Paul
      >Rejects the Trinity
For once you're correct, it reject headcanons call to worship the one and only God alone.
      >Prophet endorses violence and warfare.
A lie AND projection, go read your heckin wholesome bible and learn what happens to non-Christians
      >Polygamy
      And?
      >Prophet was married to an underage girl.
underage to what paradigm? The 21th century westroon one?
Paulgay hypocrisy can't be helped I guess.

Yeah, a book which just so happens to be called by a shortened form of the syrian pronounciation of the greek word evangelion(aka Good News, aka the Gospel).

It's as if the Quran was written by a certain caravan bandit with rudimentary, second-hand knowledge of the Bible, and not the omniscient Lord of the Universe.

It's a religion of prophetic revelation from the God of Abraham that rapidly expanded in adherence and geography during the life of its founding prophet. Territorial claims ("conquest" in some sense) were driven in part by the prophet's persecution at the hands of nonbelievers. Mountain Meadows forms another point of comparison in terms of the remarkable violence that went into the church staking out its sanctified land.

it's actually pretty crazy for a personal cult to develop into a more or less major religion, with a significant degree of geographic sovereignty, and on such a short curve, under the hand of its own divine founder figure. It's even crazier that such a, well, Biblical history happened during the age of photography and choo choo trains.

Also notice that the verse is talking about a fluid, so it has to be talking about semen, not sperm specifically since sperm cells are not a liquid, they're cells. Otherwise the Quran would be making yet another mistake.

So it's talking about semen, which acan comes from the testicles, which are outside the body and therefore outside the rib cage.

The pelvis is that big bone that unites the bones of your legs to your torso, moron. Obviously the testicles are near it, but semen is produced IN THE TESTICLES, not your pelvis, and again the testicles are outside your body and outside your rib cage.

I don't hate them, I do find it interesting that a Protestant group developed their own hierarchical church structure
Based on the theology, yes, I would call it America's Islam. I don't consider that a negative title because I am neutral on Islam as well. Once it cut itself off from the trinity and removed the cross, it really did become the Fourth Abraham religion.

Now that are at the stage of growing pains, the whole reason to be in Utah was to get eyes off of them, and now with the internet scandals are able to be reported to the rest of the US instantly, the same sort of problem that rocked American Catholicism in the last century

It isn't entirely wrong. Joseph Smith claimed to be restoring God's true religion to what it was meant to be and not only that but that the entire United States is a special gift God has given to the Mormons so a special theocracy can be built. The reason you don't hear about this stuff is around the 1900s the Mormons were tired of being seen as religious weirdos so they started changing to resemble a mainline Protestant church. Before that Mormons did stuff like speaking in tongues like Pentecostals and women having special healing powers but the church decided to clamp down on that stuff. Once they did they found being buddies with Uncle Sam is far more profitable than trying to run a socialist utopia in Utah so they've just kept going with it since.
