Still doing research, uncertain. Horses are cool and really majestic, something special about em'. Never had one personally, or anyone in my family, at least in the past 3-4 decades

People ride horses to places here, but I am in Amish country, rural PA. That said, I think horses are really cool and make for a nice companion pet too, hopefully.

In the Mexican city I live it is common to see people riding horses even on busy streets
Horses are legal on all but the interstates in the US, even most cities allow them on the streets as long as you strap a poop bag on the horse or clean up after it. They are not uncommon to see on the streets once you get away from the metros. And all that federal land and those state/federal parks which do not allow motorized vehicles generally allow horses, I have seriously considered getting a horse and disappearing into the vast wildernesses and range of lands of this country and it is my fallback if I don't find a boat soon.
