I actually enjoyed some of Eddings' books quite a lot, but never Belgariad; I thought it pretty uninspired.
I did find it funny, though, that the only reason he wrote it was because he looked at a copy of the Lord of the Rings in a book store and noticed how many copies it had sold.
Personally if I were a woman I would want to have sex for sexual and emotional reasons rather than to maintain a kinship system for people who think my having sex for sexual and emotional reasons is shameful and repellent. Even if you didn't think so yourself, you surely could easily imagine why a woman would. So I don't get the strange faux-naive coyness of the OP.
