I have always wanted to read the Under the North Star trilogy but the only English translation is out of print and generally sells for $80-150 a book. Almost has gotten me to get an ereader but it does not even seem available as an ebook. Eventually I will learn Finnish since it is my heritage and I want to go there someday. When I was little I knew some Finnish because all the old people in my family primarily spoke Finnish at family gatherings but they all died long ago and with them so did the speaking of Finnish at family gatherings.

Plus remember than Finnish is super distant from any European language, thus, as good as an English translation might be it'll never mirror the inherent autism of Finnish

That does not really matter and may not matter at all depending on the language use in the novel. The guy who translated it was very big in translating Finnish poetry and got Knight First Class in The Order of the Lion for his translation work so he probably did a decent job.

Kalevala doesn't work as a translation, read Waltari and Linna.

Alastalon Salissa, but it can't be read in any other language besides Finnish. F.E. Sillanpää won a nobel but that was just nordic cope-nobel. Sofi Oksanen wrote a few books about Estonia being occupied during WW2 and she's as Finnish as Kundera is French.
