Is it true there are still no better laptops than Thinkpads for basic web browsing?
Do older thinkpads (X230 etc) still have the best build quality and do macbooks still have the best trackpads?

surface laptop moggs everything else out there
>gorgeous screen with 4:3 ratio
>upward-firing speakers
>solid metal chassis
>excellent keyboard and trackpad
Imagine being so fricking moronic as this poster. I can't believe I live on the same planet as this
>refutes nothing
don't seem very robust and upgradable
there are videos on youtube showing how to open them up to swap parts out. op wanted basic web browsing, good build quality and good trackpad. surface laptop is the most comfy system for those imo
Does Windows 10 IoT LTSC work on these laptops? Only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is that I may need to run Win11.
not sure about new ones. older ones obviously do
obviously do what?
not sure about new ones
this is bait
it's bait
you're 'baiting
no, it's actually my opinion
i.e. older surface laptops work with win10 ltsc because they shipped with win10 retail. that said, drivers on non-bmr install media are a pain in the ass (but doable)
Aren't those Lenovo Yoga laptops pretty much just flatout better versions of the Surface line? Like if you want a Surface Pro, you may as well get a Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1, if you want a Surface Laptop you may as well get a Yoga Pro... etc.
>Do older Thinkpads (X230 etc) still have the best build quality
yes and they will never be beaten
>and do macbooks still have the best trackpads?
yes but it's down to software mainly
plenty of laptops now have glass surfaces and the sensors are good too
I buy cheap outlet/refurbished laptops that's usually sold for half price or more because they've got shitty ram/ssd/win10. Then I upgrade the ram, ssd, and windows and get a cheap good pc for way less than a similar new pc would've cost.
why do you need a good build quality laptop to only browse the web?
moron
So that it lasts longer.
moron.
wait for snapdragon x elite laptops, a lot of them are supposed to release this month. having an apple m2 experience i can pretty safely say these arm laptops are the future. they are insanely good with performance, thermals and battery life. i truly think x86 is going to die if snapdragon does well with laptops and desktops.
Running linux or windows on one of those is going to result in a bad time.
I tried to daily drive an ARM Chromebook a while ago, and there a lot of open source software doesn't compile to ARM, and I'm sure it's only gotten worse now with lots of projects distributing exclusively as appimages or flatpaks.
And ARM Windows is right out, no one supports that shit.
Bro, just buy a soldering iron. Replacing a USB port on any laptop is pretty easy.
I currently use an ARM chromebook, MT8183 and 4GB RAM
I can't imagine going back to x86 on a laptop
>4GB RAM
LXDE + Firefox/Chromium with 1 tab is already like 3.5GB, idk how you live with that little ram in current year.
chromeOS is very fast
>chromeOS
have you ever even used it before? it's seamless and fast. I'd never touch windows or a normal linux distribution again
that must be one massive website
>with lots of projects distributing exclusively as appimages or flatpaks.
you know distro never used prebuilt binaries of programs, right? only with like aur -bin packages will you see that, normal distro packages are always built from source
14 inch laptops fricking sucks and because of the OLED its really hard to find matte display. I am actually thinking about ordering xmg laptop from germany
is there a brand that makes laptops that are easily repairable? so i can replace for example usb port without having to pay someone to do it for me
(frick framework btw)
ordered a 4th gen X1, what am I in for?
