Book recs on the psychology of insecurity and anxiety

Basically the title. I'm looking for more of academic type of books on this and not self-help. Something that people studying psychology would have to read for their studies on this subject and such. It's mostly to understand this girl I know who's super insecure and shit and I'm very curious to learn more about it.

That's the thing, she's like a nun or something, absolutely no sexuality ever emanates from her. She also expresses her disgust at the sight of sexuality of others, even if it's another girl wearing skimpy shorts that she just passed randomly on the street. I really want to understand her better but it's not an option to just ask her directly sadly

        >can't ask her directly
Then don't bother, you won't be able to read people's minds. No book will teach you that.

You could read Lacan's seminar on anxiety (number 10). It's no easy read though.

I don't think it is fair, nor is it appropriate for you to try and psychoanalyse her. Some people just don't ascribe value to sexuality. I don't think it's a very healthy thing to do. In terms of general psychology, as an introductory premise for you to understand spanning books on the topic, you should look on sci-hub and locate simple papers that review psychological phenomena, like Pavlov's dog, etc.

I don't see much of an issue why would it be bad to psychoanalyse her, I see her as an interesting case overall to use to expand my knowledge about psychoanalysis and such

        don't be obtuse.

consent in psychological practice is *important*. judging a living human being by their proclivity of usefulness to 'study' rather than the very basic premise of 'hey, i wonder why you feel like that' questions that opens a concept of informed consent.

'interesting case' is for an interesting objective premise, not an individual with thoughts, feelings, ideas and complex feelings. you should not, objectively, undergo any sort of 'study' without the objective, written, or clear verbal distinction of consent from her. touch grass. there are plenty of resources out there that fulfil the very thing you want to understand.

        hey, look, i've linked resources!

*understands why you behave a certain way without your knowledge/consent*
          Somebody stop me

"understands", and even then it doesn't matter, it usually boils down to something being a problem and you having to change, knowing why you are fricked won't fix shit. This is my actual problem with psychoanalysis, seems like a bunch of useless crap considering practical purposes.

Understanding how trauma affects the mind is a huge part of psychoanalysis and honestly the most helpful imo. It's a good way to learn about yourself and what makes you tick, which lets you change things about yourself that might have seemed out of reach before. For example, attachment style to your parents during childhood affects what emotional needs/wants you find the most impactful in a romantic relationship.

It can be somewhat helpful, so it isn't completely useless. Still, it seems like overengineering a solution to a problem.

It’s funny that you linked Anna Freud when she’s tangentially related to that shady shit a bunch of psychologists pulled with twins in ny. Watch “Three Identical Strangers” if you wanna know more.

So does this only apply on the individual level or is the entire project of social psychology, anthropology, sociology and philosophy evil?

Even if it's not the "academic type of book" OP is looking for, I would start with Either/Or just because of the very plainly-written Seducer's Diary (of course, the whole thing is plainly written) which, when taken together with all the other, more rigorous correspondences in the work which are basically academic texts presented in correspondence form, give anyone a good introduction - to really feel it first, from the reader's own subjective world, so to speak.
Then you do Concept of Anxiety to really hammer it home.
