Books/periodicals for someone in prison.

A loved one of mine is currently serving time in a dangerous prison (it’s a long story). I am searching for subscriptions for them to receive reading material during their sentence and some help/ideas from IQfyizens would be greatly appreciated.

What are some books, magazines, and other good reads that would make prison life less miserable? TIA

The closest to jail anyone on here has been was torrenting anime and possible using bitcoin to buy cp, I don't think they know anything about prison

Been to La county jail, one of the most violent jails this side of the Mississippi, and I did fine. Don't get me wrong I had to put in work but overall it was nothing. The only thing that sucked was the bus ride to wayside.

Do prisons even allow books other than the bible?

Good question. I think it varies from prison to prison.

I've only ever heard of prisons that do have reading material for the inmates. I suppose I can imagine prisons that wouldn't allow it or keep any on-hand, especially in America, but facilities like that would be phenomenally moronic and counter-productive.

I read like 500 books in prison. Im unaware of any American prison without a library. You can even order books from barnes and noble. You are limited to 10 or so personal books then you have to donate to library. They would much rather have you read books then gamble and argue. I would imagine some of the mist well read people anywhere are in prison. Some of the most talented artists too.

Girlfriend brought a bunch of people over after the bar,i was black out drunk sleeping on couch. i woke up and tried to throw them out. Guy punched me we wrestled on floor (he was some sort of wrestling phenom in school) and i grabbed a knife off table that was for cutting sausage and stabbed him a dozen times before he realized what was up. His buddies all tried to jump me and i pulled out a gun.
Supposed to be a plea deal 1 year in county jail but judge gave me 5 years.
Honestly it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was in a rut. I havent drank since, and went from fat winded by stairs sloth with huge beer belly to 8 pack abs, biggest guy in the gym, can run 5 miles easy, 35 pullups type of fit. My career would never have happened and id never have had my wife and babies.

            Oh no, not at all.
I am implying his children are from another man.
            It’s subtle but stinging.

Why are women allowed to choose their partners but men aren't?

That's not bad. I've seen some minimum security prisons where they let them garden and cook meals to learn responsibility. I could just garden and read, and then go commit petty crimes until they send me back if they let me go.

They have a lot of requirements. You might not get accepted. Prisons always accept people, right?

Autobiography of Malcolm X is a good read, and since he became extremely well-read in prison it might be a good first read for a recently-incarcerated.

Contact the prison to see what they allow, they might have a list of banned books or subjects. There might be some local charities that provide books to prisoners too.

This is something I would actually want. Something to keep up with current events

I’m going to rec books I would like to read,
      George Carlin books
      Hitchhiker guide to the galaxy
      Hunter s Thompson
      Oscar Wilde

      Any comedy books.

If he wants to reflect on society and himself then just search for litcore charts
