>boomer parents own 2 houses. >grandmother died and they are selling her house worth 380k.

>boomer parents own 2 houses
>grandmother died and they are selling her house worth 380k. split 3 ways between siblings though

They refuse to help me with down payment for house. I make 80k a year and have 100k in bank but even with that I would be house poor if I decided to buy any decent house where I live.

How do you convince boomer parents for gibs?

moron millennial, the truth is most people are "paycheck to paycheck" voluntarily.
Poor people are impulsive and blow through their wages in 3 days on bad car payments and Applebee's, then complain that they're too tapped to buy the newest phone that came out.

Vast difference betweeen bottom 80 and top 20. For the bottom 80, they cannot afford the cost of living.

As the peasants demand "more free stuff" from the government, this slows economic growth dragging everyone down and pushes more of the middle class downwards.

Of course, my analysis also underscores why bitter economic sentiment persists even during "good times". It is hard to be excited about economic prosperity when you don’t participate much, if at all.
For 80% of Americans, the end game of too much debt, an aging demographic, and the push for “socialistic policies” is the continued extraction of wealth from the “middle class” to the “rich.”
Of course, we don’t have to look much further than Japan to see how this eventually works out. They don’t have a middle class, either.

Bruh live frugally is boomer talk. You don't make enough. I'm an engineer with a masters degree and a shitload of Azure and VMWare certs and build factories and I couldnt amass 100k in liquidity before 30. You need to pay for a car, or a house, or this or that. And that's making excellent plays. That's smart enough to buy car in cash when the rates were up at house on loan when it was 3%. Not alot of people figured that out. Theres even your medical care and your 401k that goes to a black hole never to be seen again until your 60s.
I have that now. All it took was covid killing my idiot boomer boss who insisted on forcing us to meet in the office & died for it like a fricking moron.
Now I do have it. So how has he got 100k in the last 4 years? Crypto plays while burger flipping? Salaries are down outside of IT. I started at 80k, now zoomers start at 60k. If they can even get hired.

And also shows that I had to do about six years of very tough school vs whatever you did and much more work and certifications than my grandfather who was a restaurant manager, and my grandmother who was a part time schoolteacher after her kids went to school and still left 1.4M to their kids due to the magic of real estate asset appreciation

It's hard but if you sit down with them and get them to figure out how much cash they actually need accounting for loss of buying power. You can figure out how much they will be able to leave for inheritance than you have to convince them that the money would better serve you now than later because of obvious reasons. If you're a sperg, just give up. This takes charisma and charm.

If I put down 20% the monthly mortgage payment would be 2800 or 3000 dollars a month. then after that I have to take into consideration high utility bills. I would be house poor basically. I do not even think I would qualify for a loan.

And I am talking about phoenix arizona, anything decent here is 450-500k minimum.

There's virtually no upfront cost to renting.
That's extra money you can use to invest with, starting now.
You're also more flexible as a renter.
If your earnings go down, you can find a cheaper place.
If your earnings go up, you can find a better place.
If the area goes to shit, you can just move to somewhere else.
There's no unforeseen expenses for repairs or maintenance.
It's not guaranteed that your home will appreciate in value or that you can sell it at all when the time comes. It depends a lot on the general and local market.
There's not really any risk involved with renting, and you're much more free.

all true. it depends on OP's situation and plans for the future and his career of course.

renter cope but whatever works for you. I like staying in one spot and watching developments happen all around me. I rented in an area before I realized that it was awesome and I didn't want to leave. Then I bought.

          >much more free

That's a funny way of saying you don't mind being man handled by landlords everywhere you go. I will admit, not having to give a frick about repairs is nice, but it also makes you lazy.

Nowadays wives work so you'll have her income to add to yours.

Yep, that's exactly what happened with my boomer parents too, grandparents house was split into 3 siblings (including my mom).
I wasn't given a single penny. They had it ten times better in their time and don't realise they technically are millionnaires sitting on piles of money. But noooo, why would they brother give me even 1 grand out of their 200k inheritance?
Boomers are selfish by design. I'd give at least a quarter to help my children because I know having money in your prime is a fricking blessing. Good god I hate boomers like you wouldn't believe.

      >boomer parents own 2 houses
      >grandmother died and they are selling her house worth 380k. split 3 ways between siblings though

They refuse to help me with down payment for house. I make 80k a year and have 100k in bank but even with that I would be house poor if I decided to buy any decent house where I live.

How do you convince boomer parents for gibs?

Ulitmately, this is the correct mentality - but it does come off as entitled and a foolish way to live. Yet, the boomers have no clue how much of a boost they could give their kids. Not even suggesting straight cash, just helping with down payments, unexpected costs. This money will either go to the government for their care or will be inflated to nothing by the time their kids see it.

It's a waste. And even if they know and understand that, most will choose to let it go to waste because they're conditioned to believe they should not give wealth to their children. It's insane. How did they come to that conclusion?

Who taught they word spoiled? We have to un-invent that for them first.

I'm not broke anymore but I could have been less broke in my 20's, that's really just it. It would have been a drop in their sea of wealth and a massive boost for me. You actually sound like one of them, not questioning anything like a drone.

    >work on family farm my entire life
    >grandfather used to teach me how to run machinery and take care of the land as a kid
    >when I was 16 my grandmother passed away from cancer
    >a year later, my grandfather had a stroke and wasn't all there to take care of the farm alone
    >I left high school in my senior year to take care of him since family was talking about putting him in a home and selling the land to fund it
    >worked on the farm whilst seeing all of my friends graduate and go to uni
    >my grandfather had moments when he'd almost return to normal, on one of those days, he came out and sat beside me and told me he wanted me to take care of his land when he was to pass
    >told me he was going to write me in as the main beneficiary of the land so I could farm it like he did and the men 6 generations back did
    >grandfather had another stroke after that 4 year period of me caring for him, he passed away shortly after
    >I earned nothing for my usual 12+ hour days except for the fact I could put groceries and basic living expenses on the farm account , so at 22 years old, I had almost no savings
    >my aunts and uncles saw the revised will and took me to court, claiming my grandfather was not in sound mind to give me what he did
    >I was expecting 1 quarter of land (worth 90k per quarter) out of the 8, he wrote me in for 4 instead
    >so my father and aunts/uncles were to split the other half under the strict rule that they would never sell it
    >courts ended up ruling in their favour, largely because I represented myself against $300/hr lawyers
    >got rewarded a $30,000 inheritance pittance
    >they collectively sold the farm a year later in 2011 for $720,000 and used that money to buy new homes and go on vacations
    >a large corporation now owns the land, current appraisal value is $3.1 million, making it unattainable for me
    >asked for help on buying a few acres for a home from my dad a few years ago and got told I should've invested my "30k from grandpa" better

      Anonymous

your not entitled to that land, and if you thought you were you should've secured the will before your grandfather passed.

wealthy families don't just "give" money to their kids. they keep it invested in dividend funds and or fund their kids startups or businesses. giving cash is a one way street to bankruptcy

I would agree if we were in the 1800s. Fortunately california texas and iowa export most of their crops and current production can easily feed the entirety of the united states. If things get bad enough, What will most likely happen is major fastfood brands like mcdonalds will get nationalized and distribute low quality slop food for free to those who can't afford it. This makes sure they don't starve, and makes them obese/low energy such that they don't cause a problem.

Yep OP, same situation here. Grandma even said that she wished it could be left eventually to me. Boomers sold it to split it a measly three ways. It was sold for a very similar figure as the home in your situation. No drama or arguing from me. Fair enough, it's ultimately theirs to decide.

That being said, guess where I will decide where those same Boomers will ultimately be going in a decade or two? Same place they sent Grandma. I'll make sure of it.
