mp3 players have longer battery life. I own multiple sandisk ones, with the ones I use most having aftermarket batteries. easy to replace batteries unlike on phones. I'll keep them going indefinitely. I get 30+ hours of continuous use on an mp3. my phone wouldn't last more than 20 hours, and then I still have to use it as a phone. mp3 players are the reason I charge my phone twice a week. I have scripts that automatically download podcast yt videos etc from my rss feed converts it to mp3 files and when I connect my mp3 player it automatically syncs with the PC. It doesn't need internet when I'm out of the house unlike my phone.

I even have a Navidrome server and it's great, until you want to add new music. Then you have to download, tag, cover and place it in the correct folder and hierarchy
why don't you just use folder browse? can't remember if that's an option on navidrome tbh but that's what I use for my *onic server and it's about as simple as can be, literally drag and drop

I don't keep pictures/music/important documents/etc. If I want a picture of a cat or booba I just google it. I don't keep pictures of old friends because I don't want to be reminded of fake people that I am no longer friends with. Navidrome can only do music, podcasts, and live music streams. Findroid is a jellyfin app that can play movies, TV shows, and videos you add to your jellyfin server

The one major downside of a local music library I’ve never found a solution for is discovery. Between stuff navidrome, jellyfin, finamp, beets, etc I’ve found solutions to manage my library, auto tag and import it into a proper folder hierarchy, album art/artist metadata, smart playlists, streaming, android auto, etc. but the one thing I’ve never replicated from streaming services is discovering new music. Anyone found something that does that?
