Obviously the last panel is incorrect, modern people still blindly worship things like the state, consumerism, cults of personality etc.

Most people are normal and care about their lives and loved ones. In fact I’ll say it, even most Christians (not you psychos) just kind of have it in the background and are also just focused on their families, bank account, health, relationships and personal goals, and don’t take Christianity seriously very much at all.

Good post. Religion does not require a deity. Only perceived moral values bestowed by some sort of authority, usually infallible.
      >saying Black person is a magic word of power
      >misgendering = genocide
      >racism against whites isn't real
      >Gender isn't real but you can be born the wrong one
      >Free trade is inherently exploitative
      >Disparity is evidence of discrimination (but only for certain groups)

These and other ideas, which are becoming more and more mainstream, are just religious beliefs without a godlike figure. A priestly class, sure, like academics and celebrities, but no literal god. It's akin to the first time monotheists came about in a world of polytheists.

If anything this comic just shows how Christians screwed themselves over. Skepticism could be more readily handled by the other religions.
    >Hindus
All gods are only contingent expressions of the one supreme Brahman, someone following brahmacarya can attain it regardless of what gods he follows
    >Buddhists
There are 84000 paths to nirvana, our school is just one of many options
    >Greco-Romans
The gods of other tribes are the same as ours but in different guises; Zeus is Amon is Indra, etc.
    >Shinto
There are 1000000 kamis, clearly these buddhas and taoist immortals are only kamis from other lands, we shall pay respect to them regardless. What's this, a israeli sage named Jesus? Yes, he is a kami too, we can accept him with the others.
    >Christians
NO there is only ONE GOD and his name is YAHWEH all the others are DEMONS and if you disagree you burn in HELL
Easy to see which one would most rapidly create atheists

      >NO there is only ONE GOD and his name is YAHWEH all the others are DEMONS and if you disagree you burn in HELL
Not only that, but if you disagree with Pastor Bob about even the smallest minutiae of doctrine then you go straight to hell. No, there is no way to know which interpretation of the israeli texts is the right one, you just have to guess and hope that you got it right. Getting a single thing wrong results in the BAD END.

Even in ancient Greece and India there were nastika (unorthodox) schools of philosophy that rejected the existence of all and any divine beings whatsoever. The idea that people could simply avoid the rise of atheism by explaining away other religions as manifestations of their own religious beliefs is false. The Romans didn't believe in Baal, and denounced the child sacrifice rituals conducted in the name of Baal by Punics. Buddhism couldn't even exist if it were incapable of expressing opposition to orthodox Hinduidm.

There is so much misery, pain, hardship, violence and suffering in the world and people turn to religion, or some kind of otherworldly powers an deities as a relief, respite, in hope (even if vain) to make life a little more hopeful, a little more bearable and in the next life, or whatever that exists beyond the existence of flesh, it will all be a little better. It's a hope that someday the misery will end and one will be able to experience the existence without so much pain.
It's good for you to say, having a desk job, sitting on your ass all day, sipping your shitty Starbucks coffee and making cliché internet arguments - "Oh, it's all stupid and I am beyond all this nonsense". Good for you, homosexual.

He's right anyway. Escaping misery and pain by turning it into a necessity is why our society is built on a foundation of sand and dogshit. Plus a lot of the misery and pain people have experienced across centuries has been at the hands of these beliefs. It's not some innocent dumbass hippy crystal bullshit which can make that claim, it's easily abusable rhetoric which has caused millions of deaths.

Religion is a midwit meme but with a catch:

Idiots are religious and follow a specific dogma, while the gifted reject both materialism and the dogma, realizing that the truth of spirituality is likely intentionally kept out of the material realm from the normies and for a good reason. Midwits end up as materialists, smart enough to see the flaws of religion but not bright enough to be able to see through the veil.

In spanish, the word for worship is "adoracion" which translate to "adoration" English is just a dumb language.

            Anonymous

Among normal people using the English language circles we call adoring something/someone deeply “love” and worship in any serious discussion is used in a religious context only outside a small amount of fringe obsessive contexts.

            Anonymous

That is because English is a corrupt language. The true meaning of worship is to adore something with all your heart above everything else. I love many things in life, but I only adore Yahweh.
