They gave a deadline to everyone to migrate their Mojang account to a Microsoft account. If you missed it support refuses to give you your account back even if you have proof of purchase and such.
I didn't agree to shit, and they can't change the contract after purchase which is when you agree to to the terms that say that. (at least in 1st world countries)
You did by signing up and then buying the game.
You were merely buying a perpetual license that might be revoked at any time without any prior warning.

if you bought minecraft in alpha you did not agree tot that

Did you migrate your account at any point aka play the game past the Microsoft acquisition? Yeah? You agreed to it.

The alpha purchase agreement says you were entitles to any future updates, so any agreement you were forced to agree to before playing the new version is void

So where's the court case against Microsoft for violating the agreement? There isn't one.
Do you still have access to newer versions? No you don't outside of piracy.
You have rights on paper, but not in practice.

Because its only a small amount of people with alpha licenses, a much smaller subgroup that actually cares, and the cost-befit analysis of starting a lawsuit against microsoft is not favorable.

still kinda ticked off I lost my og 1 word username account to not migrating.
You paid $60 (and even preordered) well-knowing how Ubisoft is, and how licensing for music and car model works.
You could've pirated it, but you didn't.
Why doesn’t the government make this sort of thing illegal? If they want to sell you a license with an expiration date they should have to advertise the product that way.
We desperately need consumer protection laws to insist a modicum of fairness. It's not just software, but also hardware that was sold with a list of minimum requirements that can change at the manufacturer's whim.
Oculus Rift was sold as a windows 7 device. Games originally purchased in the oculus store were removed, and the only way to access them is to create a facebook account.
Oh, and it's not like >"hey just make an account and link it at your convenience"
it is: >"You have 30 days to make a facebook account or you can go frick yourself"

Why did you pay for software you do not own?
Maybe morons like you will one day learn that any data they don't have permanent offline access to is not their property and can be changed or deleted a any moment
When I was BSD user, they just removed feature that was needed for my use case. Because I was a cuck BSD user, I couldn't fork anything or add it back. I'm so happy to be Linux user now. I will never be a cuck again.
do these types of anti business practices happen in video games more than any other type of medium because most "gamers" are manchildren or children who don't care or what?
nah gamers are the only ones that even remotely give a shit it seems
more and more industries are pushing forced arbitration and other shit down peoples throats and they don't even complain about it
It's because games don't matter >You revoked my license and now I can't make a living doing my job anymore
is a big deal >You revoked my license so now I'll play more fortnite instead
is forgotten after a few days
pretty sure that isn't legal since they sold perpetual licenses, are they trying to get sued on purpose?
Minecraft did just that and nobody protest.
Minecraft did what?

imagine buying licenses for games
if You do not pirate it,
You do not own it
i introduced gog to one of my colleagues and he cummed a little. i guess he is the type to play fallout 4 so that was a given.

>You could've pirated it, but you didn't.
let's see you pirate the crew, let us know how it goes
I don't get this, they say you "buy a licence not the game" but aren't they supposed to tell you how long you own the licence for when you pay for it?
read the EULA :^)
no
Publishers know well enough that most stuff inside an eula is not really enforceable (in Europe at least). Just like these "warranty void" stickers.
Every EULA in the universe includes a "we can revoke this license for any reason at any time with no notice or explanation" clause.
Why doesn’t the government make this sort of thing illegal? If they want to sell you a license with an expiration date they should have to advertise the product that way.

>why don't the wealthy sabotage their ability to accumulate wealth?
hack the planet
>government bootlicking moron enters the thread
>government regulation to protect consumers bad
>government regulation to protect company ip good
Who do you think writes the laws?
Probably because EULA means nothing in the court so it doesn't matter.
It already is illegal in most civilized countries, mutts just love to suck corporate wiener
>Why can't we make being moronic illegal
It used to be that way but then MLK came along and we closed the asylums.
So you are saying pirating was always a morally neutral thing cause you never owned anything anyway even if you paid?
Why do you care about my moral stance on piracy? Pick whichever you like.

This. It's absurd to me how many businesses are built on top of fotm online services like ChatGPT. ChatGPT very likely won't exist in 5 years

no, its just easier to vote with your wallet (in this instance, not giving ubisoft any money)
NOOO NOT MY G0YSLOP
I almost fell for it. I almost bought Hogwarts Legacy but then my sanity kicked in and I got a cracked version
